Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Quality Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the design, development, improvement, and sustainability of new or existing equipment for our advanced cell manufacturing equipment for our cutting-edge Tesla Energy Batteries.
The Battery is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. This is an exciting opportunity to build a world class manufacturing facility. Tesla Motors is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of incredibly exciting products.
The Manufacturing Engineer will also work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. This individual will work closely with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing), Quality, Process and Production teams to bring new inspection designs, fixtures and processes to operation.
We are seeking a highly motivated inline manufacturing engineer to improve our auto and semi-auto offline inspection methods for our cutting-edge Tesla battery cell manufacturing lines. This role will work with cross-functional teams on automating inspection methods, provide guidance on best industry ready inspection equipment, and increase measurement systems performance (speed and accuracy). The work environment is demanding, fast-paced, and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate creative problem solving, excellent teamwork and a get-it-done attitude.
What You'll Do
Drive the reliability of offline inspection and test equipmentDevelop new inspection methods and fixturesWork on robust solutions for inspection automation, data transfer, & cycle time reductionsSupport metrology and inspection equipment installation and commissioning on new production stations and interact with suppliersWork with cross-functional teams to connect downstream issues with data from offline measurementsTrain technicians on the new inspection processes including PM’ing and trouble shootingDrive advanced statistics, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data proficientlyDevelop and maintain inspection equipment documentation to accurately define the process for cross-functional teams (equipment, quality, production, etc.)
What You'll Bring
3+ years’ experience in a relevant field and Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or a related field or equivalent experienceExpertise in AutoCAD or SolidworksExperience in the following areas: Fixture design, robotics automationFamiliarity with GD&T, gage capability concepts, and statistical analysisProficiency with least one material characterization technique with proven ability to troubleshoot at system and module levels to achieve the desired metrology specificationsExperience with optical sensors working with a broad range of wavelengths from infrared to UV and/or X-ray based characterization tools and experimentationsExpertise in at least once statistical software package (JMP, Minitab, etc.)
