What To Expect
Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around August-Sepember 2025 and continue through the Fall term (approximately December 2025). We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.
About The Team
Service Engineering, part of Vehicle Software Engineering, is responsible for real-time diagnostic support for the service network (the field), development and improvement of diagnostic tools and procedures, and feedback of top field issues to our development teams to improve current and future products. Tesla is seeking an intern that is passionate about the product, a strong critical thinker, and capable of understanding technical system-level architecture and issues.
What You'll Do
Learn how to determine root cause issues potentially affecting 1000's of cars worldwide by analyzing logs, repair data and returned failed parts Join us in driving product improvement projects by collaborating with the development and quality teams Test development software or mechanical changes on our engineering cars Support escalations from field technical teams to help them fix specific and difficult to diagnose issues Assist with documentation in our diagnostic knowledge base by updating service manual repairs or service bulletins with new procedures Learn how to develop service tools such as 'on board diagnostic networks' to allow service to run required service routines and repair the car in an efficient way Occasional required travel within the field for hands on testing and data collection
What You'll Bring
Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Automotive Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related field with a graduation date between December 2025 – December 2026 Strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems such as sensors, actuators, and communication networks Hands on experience with vehicle chassis systems; prior experience in Formula SAE or experience working on personal cars is a plus Proficient in python preferred; able to read or interpret C/C++ a plus Capable of working in a fast paced and always changing environment Analytical mindset and problem-solving oriented A strong team player
