Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around August 2025 and continue through the entire Fall term (i.e. through December 2025) or into Spring 2026 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About The Team
Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting. Tesla moves quickly, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works alongside engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between.
We are seeking a highly motivated quality person to help continuously drive improvements to 4680 quality by gathering and utilizing data from downstream customers as well as the fleet of 4680 products. This person will track all opportunities to improve quality and drive those improvements to the product and process. They will also work with fleet analytics to build and maintain a model for product warranty and relative failure modes. This person is seasoned in manufacturing quality or reliability engineering for high reliability applications such as Li-ion cells, medical or a similar field with several years’ experience.

Interface with downstream customers, pack, vehicle, and the field. Gathering relevant information on applications and performance of 4680 cellsOwn the containment process as well as any potential escapes and be accountable to close actions that ensure issues cannot reoccurInvestigate and collect data on opportunities for improvements to 4680 quality and quantify impactBuild fundamental understanding of complex technical challenges (design, manufacturing, integration, etc.) based on data collectedUsing a data driven approach to turn opportunities into actionable tasks that can be deployed to engineering teams, then track those actions to closureOwn KPI's that describe the performance of the fleet across all in house cell manufacturingParticipate in warranty modelling based on CAE, lab testing and data from the fieldDrive compliance to industry standardsBuild fundamental understanding of complex technical challenges (design, manufacturing, integration, etc.) based on data collectedConducts detailed risk assessments at the product and manufacturing level to identify opportunity and drives mitigation of riskInterface with reliability engineering teams to implement findings from the field, lifetime testing as well as abuse engineering
What You'll Bring
Currently pursuing a Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering or a related fieldExperience working within manufacturing environment (lithium-ion cells is preferred)Ability to analyze very large data sets to draw conclusionsExperience using quality problem solving methods such as Six Sigma to root cause, solve, and iteratively improve product qualityExcellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills and strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across levels and functionsStrong data analytical skills using multiple platforms and languages (SQL, Python, Tableau, MATLAB, JMP, etc.)Fluent with common MS office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
