About the Role
Based in Shah Alam, you will serve as the core in-house legal advisor supporting local business operations in Malaysia. You will take charge of full-cycle commercial contract work, legal risk control, internal & external stakeholder coordination, and provide compliant, business-oriented legal advice aligned with Malaysian local laws.
Key Responsibilities
Contract Drafting, Review and Negotiation
- Draft, review, negotiate and provide legal advice for all types of commercial agreements
- Identify legal, commercial, operational and compliance risks within contract terms
- Deliver practical, business-focused suggestions to mitigate contractual risks
- Assist internal teams and external counterparts throughout contract negotiation processes
- Ensure all contracts comply with Malaysian applicable laws, regulations and company internal policies
Contract Management
- Oversee full contract lifecycle management from initial drafting to full execution
- Track core contractual obligations, project milestones, termination clauses and renewal deadlines
- Manage contract filing library and standardized document workflows
Legal Advisory and Risk Management
- Provide ongoing legal guidance to business teams on all commercial and contractual matters
- Evaluate legal risks arising from business projects, initiatives and transactions
- Support prevention and resolution of contract-related disputes
- Conduct legal research and share timely updates on relevant local regulatory changes
Stakeholder Management
- Act as reliable legal partner for all internal business departments
- Coordinate with external lawyers, government regulators, clients, suppliers and other third parties as required
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent legal qualification
- Admitted to the Malaysian Bar
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5 years relevant working experience, either in corporate in-house legal teams or top-tier law firms
- Proven track record of handling large volumes of commercial contracts and negotiation work
Core Knowledge & Competencies
- In-depth grasp of contract law and general commercial legal frameworks
- Familiar with Malaysian local laws and regulatory compliance rules
- Outstanding contract drafting, negotiation and cross-team communication capabilities
- Capable of balancing legal risk control and business development goals
- Strong stakeholder coordination and interpersonal skills
- Able to work autonomously and prioritize multiple tasks under fast-paced work conditions
- Skilled in Microsoft Office suite and contract management systems
Language Proficiency
- Fluent in English and Mandarin; able to conduct daily written and verbal business communication proficiently in both languages
