In this position...
The Design Industrialization Engineer is responsible for working between engineering and supply chain teams as well as with external suppliers to ensure alignment on requirements, provide critical feedbackon part designs, 2-D drawings, and directly improve specification development procedures for Ford's next generation electric powertrains. The hands-on leader of this team will identify, attract, and retain the most talented engineers to enable new automotive suppliers, build robust quality plans, and drive for low cost high volume manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Own processes, communication, and documentation from sourcing through to the transition to high volume production with new and existing suppliers
- Responsible owner for supplier site, quality plan, manufacturing process and quality of resultant part output
- Develop balanced specifications for successful RFQ's using reliability goals and FMEA's
- Evaluate supplier capabilities using Product DFM & Process DFM tools
- Define supplier quality goals during DFM negotiations and prototype phases for pre-production activities
- Lead critical capability evaluation and ensure quality for purchased parts and material supply chain from Tier 1 to Tier n at supplier.
- Lead and conduct supplier visits to ensure accuracy of information. Lead product introduction activities at the supplier.
- Develop and validate corrective actions needed at suppliers to deliver quality targets at scale
- Support the design team in generating and checking 2-D drawings and component specifications
- Support the global supply chain team in should-cost activities and supplier negotiations.
- Perform design for manufacturing review of components and systems
- Validate quoted costs vs. reality of production, and eliminate supplier waste for optimized cost Support the Global Supply Management team to ensure Costed Bill of - Process is accurate, complete and aligns to manufacturing process. Identify areas for ongoing optimization.
- Help define and drive program schedule based on supplier lead-times
- Directly hire and building out a technical engineering staff to lead quality and industrialization
Qualifications
You'll have...
B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
8+ years of experience in Design Industrialization Engineering or Supply Chain Management
Proven experience in vehicle launch from prototype phase through mass production
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent teamwork, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills
Even better, you may have...
Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields
Experience in the automotive industry
Experience with hardware development from concept through production launch in automotive or similar
