As a Range Test Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of sustainable transportation by validating the performance and reliability of Ford's electric vehicles. You will plan and execute comprehensive vehicle-level testing, focusing on range and performance, to ensure our EVs meet and exceed expectations. By collaborating across functional teams, you will drive improvements in testing methodologies and measurement precision, ultimately contributing to the development of world-class electric vehicles.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
- Execute comprehensive vehicle-level testing for powertrain performance, range, and efficiency, including EPA/WLTP range and coastdown procedures
- Collaborate closely with homologation, calibration, range, thermal, powertrain and aerodynamics teams to ensure seamless integration and alignment of testing efforts
- Drive improvements in testing methodologies and measurement techniques to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Travel to support program milestones, validation activities, and specialized testing at various locations.
- Support chassis dynamometer lab commissioning, calibrations and maintenance to ensure equipment accurate and reliable testing.
- Precisely instrument vehicles and subsystems, ensuring accurate data acquisition during testing.
- Create comprehensive test documentation, including detailed test plans, methodologies, data acquisition procedures, and post-processing steps.
- Validate vehicle-level software and hardware changes related to vehicle energy management and range estimation
- Stay up to date on industry standards and regulations (SAE, EPA/CARB, WLTP)
Qualifications
You'll have...
- B.S. or diploma in Aerodynamics/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience with dynamometer or aerodynamics testing
- Experience with vehicle product development cycles and the role of testing
- Fundamental understanding of dynamometers or load cells, + DAQ/CAN systems such as DEWESoft/ VBOX/Vector/ATI/dSpace/ETAS test suites
- Basic Proficiency in any of Python, Matlab, or similar data analysis tools
- Experience with instrumentation sensor characteristics
- Familiarity with SAE test procedures and 40 CFR Part 1066 regulations
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Confluence, and Jira applications
Even better, you may have...
- 2+ years of experience in motorsports
- 3+ year of experience homologating and launching a new product
- Experience with controls strategies for vehicle powertrain/dynamics systems
- Ability to create clear and concise test reports and present findings to technical audiences
- Experience working with motor, hub, chassis dynamometers or similar R&D lab environments
- An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team
- A systematic approach to problem-solving in a testing environment, with a passion for continuous improvement in test procedures and data analysis
