Ford Motor Company, a leading manufacturer of automobiles and automotive products, is searching for a highly skilled and motivated candidate in electric powertrain testing to support development of current and future hybrid electric and battery electric vehicles in its Electric Drive E-Motor and Power Electronics Lab.
In this exciting position, you’ll play a key role in the creation of next-generation electric vehicle propulsion systems. You will be responsible for the validation and reliability testing of HEV and BEV E-Motors, Traction Inverters, and related sub-components. Your contributions will directly support development of current and future model electrified powertrains. As a phenomenal teammate, you will build impact by collaborating across the Electrified Powertrain Engineering organization and with key work partners throughout the company – product, engineering, and technology teams.
Responsibilities
What you'll do...
In this role you will:
- Test electrical machines, inverter systems or supporting subcomponents.
- Develop test procedures and processes to increase testing efficiency.
- Operate test cells with dynamometers, variable frequency drives, battery simulators, power supplies, active/passive loads, oil conditioning units, air and coolant chillers, thermal chambers, NVH chambers, end of line testers, and data acquisition systems.
- Configuration of data acquisition systems to measure temperature, voltage, current, electrical and mechanical power, speed, torque, vibration, pressure, humidity and others by using equipment such as oscilloscopes, power scopes, power analyzers, various probes and integrated DAQ systems.
- Configuration and execution of manual and automated tests by following test plans, user guides and safety protocols.
- Follow test lab operations process and complete test requests from requesting engineers with support of technicians and facility services in the test setups.
- Work with outsourced testing facilities in support of additional testing capacity/capability.
- Operate and create data post processing tools and generate test reports.
- Create documentation for test processes and procedures, project engineering and work instructions for engineers and technicians.
- Design fixtures and test setups for standard or custom test methods including interaction with fabrication shops and part vendors.
- Share and present work to cross-functional teams and leadership.
Qualifications
You'll have...
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE or BSME) with experience in electrical motors, power electronics or other electrical equipment
- 1 year of test laboratory experience
- 1 year of experience with test and measurement equipment such as programmable automated testers, durability testing, data acquisition, oscilloscopes, motor controllers, test automation and variable frequency drives
- Understanding the theory of permanent magnet and induction machines and variable frequency drives Proficient test data post processing and simulation with Matlab or other similar numerical computational tool
- Experience with CAN, TCP/IP, and ASAP3 based communication protocols
- Direct hands-on experience testing E-motors and inverters including design verification, environmental and durability testing
Even better, you may have...
- Master’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering (MSEE or MSME) 2 years of test laboratory experience,
- 1 year of experience in electric machines, motor drives, motor controls and calibration, motor and inverter cooling systems, and electromechanical interaction of electric drives
- 2 years of experience related to testing motor drive systems and sub-components including: design verification testing, thermal testing, durability testing, and test automation
- 2 years of experience in diagnostics / troubleshooting in test lab environment including work with EMI, power circuit sizing, test alarm systems and automated test sequencing
- Familiarity with energy control-power lock out, arc flash and high voltage safety training / best practices Knowledge of Microcontroller operation and interface
- Ability to create and interpret CAD drawings, wiring diagrams and other schematics.
- Knowledge of ISO test equipment calibration requirements / practices and quality standards
- Proficient computer skills using software and controllers such as Matlab, NI LabVIEW/TestStand, AVL Puma/Lynx, IMC Dataworks, Accurate Technologies ATI Vision, Vector
- Proficient software developing skills using MS Visual Studio, Python, C#, C++, or other code editor to create applications
- Excellent teamwork, communication and documentation skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
