Role and Responsibilities:
- Provide Employment advice/counsel and manage Employment issues as well as other HR issues
- Implement, monitor, and enhance ethics and compliance programs from HQ with the goal of enabling and driving compliant ethical business conduct in various compliance areas (e.g. HSE, labor, privacy laws);
- Act as the bridge between the SK On Global Legal & Compliance Office and SK Battery America management on legal and compliance issues, continually providing advice and guidance to the country management on relevant topics, challenges and major initiatives;
- Participate in other legal/compliance projects and support other worldwide legal/compliance department priorities;
- Liaise with and report to HQ legal and compliance team leaders in Seoul, Korea under the overall leadership of the Head of Legal & Compliance in Korea;
- Manage and resolve legal disputes and investigations, including disputes with commercial parties, government investigations, labor arbitrations and litigation;
- Draft, review, and negotiate customer and vendor contracts, including purchase agreements, service agreements, license agreements, and lease agreements;
- Perform legal analysis/research and recommend appropriate strategies to senior staff; and
- Manage and coordinate with outside counsel effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. degree (or an equivalent degree) and membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- 3+ years of legal experience working in-house or at a law firm (or a combination of experience)
- Some amount of professional legal experience handling HR/Employment issues
- Some amount of professional legal experience in the field of Compliance
- Must be highly adaptable, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling multiple competing priorities and deadlines
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-house legal experience is highly preferred, especially in the manufacturing industry
- Specific experience in providing legal advice on HR issues
- Experience in managing compliance issues such as HSE, privacy, and labor laws
- Knowledge of Korean language is a plus
