Duties and Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Manage day-to-day operations for assigned automated Megaline production areas, including electrode fabrication, cell assembly, formation, aging, testing, and final cell processing.
- Execute production plans to meet established targets for safety, quality, yield (≥80%), Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) (≥80%), cost, throughput, and on-time delivery.
- Support the ramp-up, stabilization, and steady-state operation of automated Megaline equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Monitor production performance and drive improvement of key performance indicators (KPIs), including throughput, yield, scrap, downtime, and OEE.
- Ensure adherence to standard work instructions, operating procedures, process controls, and production requirements.
Team Leadership
- Directly manage Area Supervisors, Operators, Automation Control & Process Technicians, and Shipping & Receiving personnel, as assigned.
- Lead, coach, and develop production teams across assigned shifts and manufacturing areas.
- Establish staffing plans, shift coverage, training requirements, and cross-functional workforce flexibility to support production needs.
- Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and accountability.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality management systems and standards, including ISO 9001, AS9100D, or equivalent requirements.
- Partner with Quality and Process Engineering to investigate defects, yield loss, nonconformances, and process deviations.
- Lead and support root cause analysis (RCA) and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Support internal and external audits, inspections, documentation requirements, and product release activities.
- Ensure production personnel follow applicable quality procedures, work instructions, and process controls.
Safety & Environmental
- Enforce Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements associated with lithium-ion materials, chemicals, automated equipment, and high-energy manufacturing operations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA requirements, local regulations, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Lead proactive safety initiatives designed to identify hazards, reduce incidents, and continuously improve workplace safety performance.
- Reinforce employee compliance with required personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices, and established safety procedures.
- Partner with EHS and operational leadership to address identified hazards, corrective actions, and safety concerns.
Process Optimization & Scale-Up
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and other data-driven methodologies.
- Support new product introductions (NPI), pilot-to-Megaline transitions, manufacturing ramp-up, and production scale-up activities.
- Collaborate with Engineering to improve automation performance, line balancing, process capability, cycle time, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Identify production constraints and implement sustainable improvements to increase throughput, yield, equipment utilization, and operational performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Supply Chain to ensure material availability, production readiness, and timely resolution of material-related issues.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to improve equipment uptime, reliability, preventive maintenance effectiveness, and response to equipment issues.
- Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, EHS, and other functional teams to resolve manufacturing issues and support production objectives.
- Partner with Finance and leadership, as appropriate, on cost tracking, budgeting, labor utilization, and productivity improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Operations Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive manufacturing experience, including demonstrated leadership responsibility in lithium-ion battery manufacturing or a comparable advanced manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on knowledge of lithium-ion battery manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and associated production requirements strongly preferred.
- Experience leading employees, managing production schedules, allocating resources, and addressing employee performance and operational issues.
- Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment, production ramp-up, process stabilization, or high-volume manufacturing operations preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of manufacturing KPIs, including OEE, yield, scrap, throughput, downtime, productivity, and cost.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, root cause analysis, CAPA, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100D, or comparable quality management systems.
- Strong leadership, coaching, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, EHS, and other functional areas.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to frequently bend, squat, reach, and climb as required to support production operations.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to work in and around automated manufacturing equipment and production environments while wearing required PPE.
