Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that has the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment is among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells produces battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Description
General Motors has a need for qualified HVAC Journeypersons/technicians to work at their Ultium Cells, Warren OH, facility. You will work under minimal supervision with a high level of independent judgement and problem solving. You should be flexible enough to take on and tackle multiple job assignments in a shift.
Preferred Experience Includes
- Experience with planned maintenance systems and predictive technologies
- Experience with Building Automation Systems and Commercial/Industrial grade HVAC equipment
- Considerable knowledge of the installation and repair of a wide variety of HVAC and control systems
Primary Responsibilities
- Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures
- Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical/electrical components (e. g. bearings, seals, details, carriers, etc.) on industrial HVAC equipment such as shafting, motors, pumps, belts, gears, couplings, linkages, ball screws, coolant systems, filters, combustion equipment and valves.
- Responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial/industrial grade HVAC equipment and systems
- Maintain HVAC systems including the equipment, duct work, clean/dry room equipment and assist with maintaining process supporting equipment such as mixers, coater ovens, dust collectors, fume collectors, scrap collectors, activated carbon towers, hot oil boilers, hot water boilers, steam boilers, chillers, Solvent Recovery Process, Central Electrolyte Storage System, etc.
- Understand the equipment programming and be able to alter temperatures and simple programming
- Monitor data from measuring devices and check equipment regularly to ensure normal operating activity
- Monitor HVAC and room conditions for optimal production
- Provides expertise for non-routine HVAC jobs
- Support the Facilities Engineering Department with projects
- Properly maintain clean and dry rooms to the desired specifications
- Maintain proficiency with the Building Management System (BMS) and make recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor on upgrades to maintain efficient operations
- Report to Mechanical/HVAC Engineers on mechanical equipment issues
- Convey building characteristics and existing mechanical systems and capabilities strategize effective start and stop optimization of equipment
- Work with other maintenance workers/staff to resolve maintenance problems and coordinate services
- Service as liaison with vendors
- Coordinate inventory and ordering of parts, tools, materials for routine projects and to maintain stock
- Advanced troubleshooting and repair skills with chillers (centrifugal, screw and reciprocating), boilers and all types of control systems
- Ability to analyze entire building needs i.e. (heat loss, heat loads, and solar gains) and existing HVAC conditions to identify systemic or engineering issues
- Demonstrated ability to comprehend building plans, wiring, diagrams and schematics
- Ability to prioritize work schedules, identify and correct problems and communicate effectively with staff
- Experience in the installation and termination of CAT 5/CAT 6 enhanced data cabling following TIA/EIA 568B standards and be able to troubleshoot network conductivity with HVAC networkable controls
- Considerable knowledge of tools and techniques used in maintenance and repair of large buildings.
- Ability to read and interpret building drawings and specifications
- Technical communication skills to relay information to Facilities Engineers, suppliers, and teams across the Company to ensure expectations are met/exceeded
- Experience in a clean-room or dry-room production environment working with automated equipment
- Computer proficient, a troubleshooter, problem solver, and critical thinker skills
- Comprehensive understanding of production and processing equipment
- Ensure work is completed in a safe manner and maintain a safe work environment
- Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems
- Use various hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering, assembling, joining, and installing pipes, valves, and fittings
- Operate mobile equipment (e.g. forklifts, vertical lifts, cranes)
- Determine loading requirements to rig equipment and material for lifting
- Additional duties as assigned
Additional Description
Interested individuals must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Completion of a bona-fide apprenticeship program with standards equivalent to the Union/Company Apprenticeship
- Eight (8) years of documented experience in trade, or
- Five (5) years of documented experience in that classification and three (3) years of documented experience in a related classification
- Experience and training equivalent to that required in a bona-fide apprenticeship program as set forth above
- EPA 608 Universal Certification
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements which includes comprehensive assessments, drug testing, and a background check
- At least 18 years of age
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Must be willing to work fixed shift hours and day, afternoon, or night shifts as well as overtime hours daily, weekend and holidays on those shifts with little notice. The Maintenance teams work 3 on, 3 off, 12 hour shifts.
