Job Description
The Role:
The Electric Power Component Design Release Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, release, packaging, and maintaining electric power components, and resolving issues as they arise. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring all GM requirements are me and will be the single-point contact between GM and the supplier(s). The DRE will participate in complex problems using quantitative and qualitative data to find solutions with a blend of program management and technical leadership. They will also be responsible to lead and develop strategic solutions to achieve business initiatives for safety, warranty, cost, and quality.
Hybrid:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Cole Engineering Center Podium location three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].
Relocation:
This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee design and packaging of Low Voltage components
- Work with Designers to ensure interface and packaging compatibility both internally and externally
- Work with other component owners and Technical Specialist to select appropriate designs.
- Work with manufacturing to ensure build ability and to determine quality requirements
- Work to support manufacturing in root cause
- Work with service to ensure serviceability
- Support purchasing in sourcing of components
- Oversee and support DFMEA and Design Reviews Based on Test Results (DRBTR)
- Track validation status and review results
- Resolve all development and validation issues
- Manage change control
- Work with system engineers to execute low voltage systems that meet vehicle power load requirements
- Provide and manage component timing plan
- Execute and support Peer Reviews per program milestones
- Work with component suppliers to meet design and timing objectives
- Support VDDV initiatives

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science Degree in electrical, chemical, or mechanical engineering.
- 2 years combined experience in designing, developing, and release
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Ability to travel as needed (up to 2% max; mostly local plants / suppliers)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience in low voltage electric systems/component design and development
- Good analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.
- Knowledge of design for manufacturability and low-cost manufacturing of electrical devices
- Ability to read system engineering schematics and understand electronic / electrical functionality
- Knowledge of vehicle serial data communications (CAN, GMLAN, LIN,) and electrical architectures (Class 2, Common Architecture, Global A, and Global B)
- Experience in troubleshooting hardware anomalies using big data analytics to help root cause complex electric power issues
- Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
