The Electrified Propulsion Engineering (EPE) organization is responsible for delivering the best fuel economy and refined Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Electric vehicles in every segment in which we contend. Responsibilities
What you'll do…
- Lead potting foam/resin material specification for battery pack designs
- Work with material suppliers to develop or modify potting materials chemistries and dispensing processes based on Ford specifications.
- Manage experimental battery pack builds.
- Manage engineering de-risking of battery pack design by evaluating electrical, mechanical, thermal, and thermal propagation performance data of potting foam/resin and adhesives.
- Author potting foam/resin and adhesive materials specifications for bonding battery components without mechanical fasteners.
- Specify surface preparation methods needed on the polymer and metals substrates and identify the appropriate method for surface evaluation including surface free energy or contact angle measurements
- Support Core Product and Battery manufacturing teams with material applications and associated process definition.
- Support Purchasing organization to align engineering statement of Work and evaluate supplier feedback.
Author design rules and interface requirements for battery pack adhesive joints.
Qualifications
You'll have…
- 10 years minimum experience in electric vehicle technology.
- 3 years minimum working experience in EV battery adhesives supporting product development, battery manufacturing and Purchasing organizations.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
Even better, you may have…
- Expert knowledge of material engineering theory including polymers, coatings, adhesives and surface preparation techniques.
- Deep adhesive dispensing knowledge required, working as lead engineer with battery manufacturing engineering.
- Physical adhesive testing experience preferred, including PU, epoxy and acrylic materials
Hands on build experience with battery components required, including High Voltage and Li-ion safety awareness.
