Redwood Materials is seeking an entrepreneurial Mechanical Engineering intern or co-op to support our pilot and commercial scale production operations. Responsibilities include leading and supporting technical design and specification of new mechanical processing equipment and manufacturing facilities, conducting high-level technical troubleshooting of equipment and electromechanical systems, and developing prototypes, research projects, and experiments for new processes. Desired qualifications include pursuing a B.S. or advanced degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline, prior engineering internship experience with a leading technology or manufacturing company, hands-on experience building products or projects in the workshop or lab, coursework and/or experience with thermodynamics, gas combustion and chemical processes, working knowledge of major mechanical design software packages, and coursework and/or experience with automation and programmable control systems. The candidate should be highly self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset and willing to contribute at all levels of the organization. Physical requirements include the ability to safely perform job duties in both office and production environments, ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and maintain regular and punctual attendance. Working conditions include a split work environment between office and production facility, with possible exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes while protected by PPE. This full-time paid position may be arranged as either an internship (12 weeks) or a Co-op (4-8 months), depending on the candidate. The location of the internship is either in the Reno or Carson City, Nevada area (exact location based on team placement). Interns are responsible for their own housing and transportation arrangements, with limited public transit options.
