What You’ll Do
The Director of Cell Technology is responsible for executing Inventus Power's battery cell technology strategy to drive innovation, competitive advantage, and long-term business growth. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this role serves as the company's technical authority on battery cell technologies while leading strategic partnerships, advancing intelligent battery solutions, and representing Inventus as an industry thought leader.
This position works cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Management, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, and key external partners to evaluate emerging technologies, support customer engagements, and ensure Inventus remains at the forefront of battery innovation.
Responsibilities (Including other duties as assigned)
- Develop and execute the company's battery cell technology roadmap aligned with business objectives.
- Evaluate emerging battery chemistries, cell technologies, and industry trends to identify opportunities for innovation and product differentiation.
- Lead the development of Inventus Power's Battery Intelligence platform by leveraging internal cell test data, field performance data, and strategic collaboration with our partners
- Provide technical direction for next-generation battery technologies, product development, and commercialization.
Strategic Partnerships
- Identify, establish, and maintain strategic relationships with leading battery cell manufacturers and technology partners.
- Develop partners to support North American battery supply chain
- Build collaborative partnerships with universities, national laboratories (including Argonne National Laboratory), government agencies, and research organizations to accelerate innovation.
- Evaluate and promote new technologies that strengthen Inventus Power's competitive position.
Technical Leadership
- Serve as Inventus Power's subject matter expert on battery cell technologies.
- Provide technical leadership and consultation across Engineering, Quality, Operations, Product Management, Supply Chain, and Executive Leadership.
- Support customer meetings, technical reviews, and business development activities as the company's battery cell expert.
- Mentor engineering teams and foster technical excellence across the organization.
Customer & Industry Leadership
- Partner with Sales to communicate technology roadmaps and emerging battery innovations to strategic customers.
- Represent Inventus Power at customer meetings, industry conferences, technical forums, and trade organizations.
- Collaborate with Marketing to develop technical papers, presentations, and thought leadership content.
- Actively participate in industry organizations and standards committees, including NAATBatt, MPSC, SAE, and other relevant technical working groups
What You Will Need
- Preferred Advanced degree in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in battery cell technology, advanced energy storage, or related fields. Experience at major cell manufacturing entities is highly valued.
- Deep expertise in lithium-ion battery technologies, cell characterization, battery management systems, and emerging battery technologies.
- Proven experience developing technology strategies, leading innovation initiatives, and establishing strategic technical partnerships.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to customers, executive leadership, and industry audiences.
- Strong leadership, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with the ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
- Be available on site for meetings with suppliers, customers, and internal teams on a regular basis.
Travel
Up to 30% domestic and international travel to support customers, strategic partners, supplier relationships, research collaborations, and industry events.
