Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e through April/May 2026) or into Summer 2027 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Reporting to the Solar Roof Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Manufacturing Engineering Intern is primarily responsible for the design and deployment of Tesla energy product and automated lines – inclusive of design, commissioning, process development and technical transfer of the tools to the operation team; qualifying them for use with the highest standards of safety, throughput, uptime and yield (OEE).
The Manufacturing Engineering Intern works closely with Tesla’s internal Product Design, Operations, Facilities, and Quality Engineering teams and coordinates cross-functional design activities with tool vendors to develop novel solar manufacturing equipment.

What You'll Do
Collaborate with the Solar Design team to propose solutions for Tesla energy products. Ensuring designs are adhering to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principlesDevelop manufacturing methods and select equipment necessary to commercialize the Solar productsOversee installation and ensure ramp-up of manufacturing equipmentSupport the design, assembly, and debugging of equipment, including hardware selection and basic programmingDevelop and modify HMI screens using Ignition to improve operator experience and assist with MES interface validationLearning to maintain and troubleshoot control systems including PLC and industrial networksCharacterize baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product yield and tool availabilityDrive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change
What You'll Bring
Pursing Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fieldExperience with EPLAN software or Electrical AutoCADExperience programming PLCs and articulated robotsPractical skills with industrial electrical systems including 480V 3-phase, 110VAC, and 24VDCBe able to read electrical schematics and familiar with electrical codeExperience in electrical panel buildingStrong hands-on experience, preferably with high-volume and pilot manufacturingExcellent interpersonal skills to effectively achieve results with multiple vendors and internal and external customersExcellent communicator, both in presentations and written reportsProven ability to work well with production personnel of all levels

Expected Compensation
$20.00 - $50.00 + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
