What To Expect
As an Equipment Safety Engineer within the EHS&S team, you will play a key role in the GFTX EHS team, ensuring safety is integrated into factory and equipment design from concept through production.
You will collaborate with New Programs Engineering, AI & Robotics, Manufacturing, and design teams to develop standardized, high-quality safety solutions for automated manufacturing equipment. This role spans design, build, commissioning, and production support.
Working both independently and cross-functionally, you will help solve complex safety challenges with practical, innovative approaches—driving safer workplaces, improving efficiency. What You'll Do
Lead machine safety activities across equipment lifecycle from concept, design, build, to sustaining productionPerform hazard analysis and risk assessments for automation, robotics, and manufacturing systemsEnsure compliance with Tesla standards and global regulations (ANSI, ISO, OSHA, NFPA, RIA)Execute FAT and SAT to verify safety requirements and ensure equipment is safe for operationValidate safety control systems, including functional testing of safety PLCs and safety devicesPartner with design, manufacturing, and external vendors to develop and deploy robust safety solutionsSupport audits, change management, and continuous improvement to maintain safe operations
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Health, or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience in equipment or safety engineering Knowledge of machine safety systems and controls platforms Familiar with global safety standards (ANSI, ISO, RIA, NFPA, OSHA) Experience supporting design review, FAT/SAT, commissioning Strong cross-functional collaboration skills Certifications (CSP, CMSE) or robotics experience preferred
