What To Expect
Tesla is redefining how Australians buy and use energy through our retail electricity and Virtual Power Plant (VPP) programs, integrating Powerwall, solar, and EV charging into smarter, more sustainable energy solutions. Behind every one of these programs sits an operational engine that keeps it running: reliable backend workflows, clean data, on-time payments, and airtight compliance within the National Electricity Market (NEM).
As a Commercial Operations Coordinator, you'll own the day-to-day execution that keeps Tesla Energy’s retail and VPP operations running smoothly, and you'll help build and improve the processes that let us grow. In a lean, fast-moving team, you'll move fluidly between hands-on delivery (B2B transactions, payments, and exception handling) and improving the systems behind them.
This role is for a detail-oriented self-starter who spots problems before they surface, reasons from first principles, and uses modern tools (including AI) to deliver the output of a much larger team.
What You'll Do
Run daily operations for Tesla's retail energy products, including B2B service order processing, payment reconciliation, and data governance, with accuracy and full regulatory compliance.Help improve and maintain the automated backend workflows that make retail and VPP operations faster, cleaner, and more reliable.Coordinate day-to-day correspondence with internal and external stakeholders (utilities, distributors, and regulators), supporting compliance with NEM rules, AER and AEMO requirements, and VPP program obligations.Partner with Customer Support to help resolve escalations, and work with Engineering, Accounting, IT, and Compliance to flag recurring issues so they can be fixed at the source.Monitor and audit operational performance to identify inefficiencies and support continuous improvement using first-principles thinking.
What You'll Bring
2 to 5 years of experience in energy retail operations, utility program management, or a related field.Working knowledge of the Australian energy market (NEM), billing systems, and compliance frameworks such as retail licensing, AER, and AEMO procedures.Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with the judgement to prioritise customer outcomes and regulatory adherence in a fast-paced environment.Confidence working with data and reporting tools (e.g. SQL, Excel, Tableau) to organise information and turn it into actionable insight.A highly organised operator who stays calm and effective while juggling competing priorities.
Nice to have
Hands-on experience with billing or CRM platforms such as Ziplabs.Familiarity with Virtual Power Plants, demand response, or behind-the-meter energy.A track record of automating manual workflows or building lightweight tools (scripts, dashboards, or AI-assisted solutions).Bachelor's degree in a STEM or business-related discipline; equivalent practical experience is equally valued.
