Position Overview
We are hiring two Battery Application Engineers to join the newly established Battery Application Engineering Team in Westborough, MA. Each engineer will serve as a primary technical resource for LGES Vertech’s ESS product lines, supporting both AC and DC LINKs. AC and DC LINKs are LGES’s enclosure-based systems with AC LINK integrating both inverters and batteries into a single enclosure while the DC LINK integrates batteries in a single enclosure. Primary focus areas – AC or DC – will be determined based on each individual’s background and strengths.
This is a product-focused technical role. For either product, the engineer builds a broad understanding of LGES developed battery products and serves as the US team’s internal technical resource on battery system characteristics. In addition, the hired engineer is expected to have subject matter expertise in one or more of the areas: (a) battery cells (b) DC/AC electrical systems (c) mechanical/structural/civil engineering (d) SW/controls.
The role focuses on enabling internal Sales Engineering, Project Engineering, and System Engineering teams with clear, execution-ready technical guidance and solving complex issues that arise from the integration of AC and DC LINKs in projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- AC/DC LINK products: Develop working knowledge of AC and DC LINKs -- including product architecture, key performance parameters, electrical systems, mechanical/structural characteristics and BMS behavior -- and serve as the US team's go-to resource for product technical questions. In addition, become a subject matter expert in one of the above four areas mentioned i.e. (a) battery cells (b) DC/AC electrical systems (c) mechanical/structural/civil engineering (d) SW/controls. Since the AC LINK provides AC power, the person hired will need to understand how the AC LINK satisfies grid code requirements (e.g. LVRT, Frequency response), performs Grid Following/Grid Forming functions, enables Blackstart, etc.
- Serve as the internal technical resource for assigned BESS product lines -- answering inquiries, supporting proposals, and clarifying product specifications for internal Sales Engineering, Project Engineering, and System Engineering teams.
- Build and maintain standardized product documentation: Technical Datasheets, System Architecture Overviews, Interface Definitions, Compliance Summaries, and Q&A packages.
- Track LGES HQ product updates and new product introductions; assess US market relevance and communicate changes internally.
- Support pre-award and post-award activities: proposal reviews, technical clarifications, design deviation tracking, and customer technical queries.
- Contribute to team knowledge base with lessons learned, templates, and case studies.
- Coordinate with ESVT Sales Engineering, Project Engineering, System Engineering, and HQ technical teams on active proposals and projects.
- Collect new product requirements based on customer/market information and interactions with internal partners (e.g. Sales Engineering, Project Engineering, and System Engineering teams). Work with product teams in HQ and in the US to ensure products are designed to meet these requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in battery energy storage, power electronics, inverter/PCS system, mechanical/structural engineering for large-scale equipment, or a closely related field.
- Technical depth in at least one of the following areas: (a) battery cells (b) DC/AC electrical systems (c) mechanical/structural/civil engineering; experience in mechanical, structural, or civil engineering aspects of large-scale battery installations (container design, mounting, thermal/HVAC, seismic, civil foundation) is highly valued and considered a strong differentiator.
- (d) SW/controls with an emphasis on grid code requirements (e.g. LVRT, Frequency response), Grid Following/Grid Forming functions/Blackstart, etc.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents including engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, and product specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Korean proficiency is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SharPoint experience is a plus.
- Experience in utility-scale or C&I energy storage projects preferred.
- Experience working across engineering, sales, and project management teams preferred.
Desired:
- Experience in utility-scale or C&I energy storage projects preferred.
- Experience working across engineering, sales, and project management teams preferred.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical engineering, Power Systems, Electrochemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Engineering, SW/Controls or related field.
Working Conditions/Office Environment/Travel
- Up to 15% -- to support customers and collaborate with international teams.
