The Role |
We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Tax Manager to establish our tax compliance and planning framework in Canada. This role is critical for ensuring our entry into the market is tax-efficient and compliant from day one. You will be responsible for all direct and indirect tax matters, managing relationships with authorities, and providing crucial advice to the business. This is a foundational role for someone who excels in creating structure out of ambiguity.
Key Responsibilities
- Zero-to-One Tax Framework: Develop and implement the company's Canadian tax strategy, policies, and compliance processes from the ground up.
- Compliance & Reporting: Oversee and prepare all Canadian tax filings, including corporate income tax (T2), GST/HST/PST, payroll taxes, and other requisite returns.
- Transfer Pricing: Work with HQ and global advisors to design, document, and implement compliant transfer pricing policies for cross-border transactions.
- Business Advisory: Provide proactive tax advice and support on operational matters, including supply chain setup, dealership agreements, and sales models.
- Tax Audits: Serve as the primary point of contact for any tax audits or inquiries from federal and provincial tax authorities.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate tax risks, ensuring full compliance with all Canadian tax laws and regulations.
Qualifications & Experience |
- CPA designation with a specialization in tax. Completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Program is highly preferred.
- 10+ years of Canadian corporate tax experience, ideally within a multinational corporation or a major accounting firm.
- Proven experience in establishing tax functions or managing tax aspects of a market entry project (Zero-to-One experience is highly desired).
- Expert knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax and GST/HST. Experience with automotive industry-specific taxes is a strong plus.
- Strong understanding of international tax concepts and transfer pricing principles.
- A self-starter with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with various stakeholders across different cultures
