What To Expect
As a key member of the motor engineering team, the Motor Technology Research Engineer will be responsible for researching, developing and program manage various new technologies to enhance the motor performance, efficiency and reduce the cost. The technologies include but not limited to new topologies, new materials and innovative manufacturing related technologies, which will be introduced to Tesla’s development programs.
What You'll Do
Develop new motor technologies electromagnetically, mechanically and thermally using finite element simulation and in-house developed software, develop new simulation capabilities as neededDevelop plans to evaluate new motor technologies, including material sourcing, prototyping, component testing, dyno testing and in-vehicle testingProgram manage the motor technology development internally and externallyCollaborate with CAE engineers and test engineer to evaluate each motor technologyCommunicate and collaborate with vendors to evaluate new materials and innovative fabrication processCreating detailed specifications for materials and drawings for partsCreate detailed test and validation plan for each new motor technology, track milestone stages such as proof of concept, durability test and industrialization
What You'll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experienceStrong mathematical and physical understanding on electrical machineryExpertise on finite element simulationExperience in electric motor design or manufacturingStrong Matlab or Python programming skillsStrong communication skills in English

Expected Compensation
$112,000 - $192,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
