Position Summary:
The Sr. Specialist, Health & Safety serves as a subject-matter expert responsible for leading and continuously improving assigned workplace health and safety programs. This position anticipates, recognizes, evaluates, and supports the control of complex workplace hazards while ensuring compliance with applicable Company standards and federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
The Sr. Specialist independently leads safety initiatives, complex risk assessments, incident investigations, audits, and regulatory activities and partners with leadership and cross-functional teams to strengthen safety performance and culture. This role also provides technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced Health & Safety professionals.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead and maintain assigned plant-wide health and safety programs and drive continuous improvement in program effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert and technical resource for health and safety requirements, programs, standards, and workplace hazard controls.
- Identify, evaluate, and drive mitigation of workplace hazards across manufacturing operations and administrative areas.
- Conduct production floor walks, safety inspections, and jobsite audits to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, equipment concerns, and regulatory or policy non-compliance.
- Lead complex incident and near-miss investigations, facilitate root cause analysis, and ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and sustained.
- Lead or provide technical guidance for new equipment safety reviews, mechanical risk assessments, ergonomic assessments, and other complex workplace hazard evaluations.
- Develop, implement, review, and continuously improve site-specific health and safety programs, procedures, standards, and documentation.
- Interpret applicable federal, state, and local health and safety regulations and provide guidance to leadership and employees regarding compliance requirements.
- Lead cross-functional safety initiatives and improvement projects to reduce workplace risk and improve safety performance.
- Analyze safety trends, incident data, audit findings, and other performance indicators to identify risks and recommend improvement strategies.
- Communicate significant safety risks, regulatory concerns, and recommended corrective actions to department and site leadership.
- Lead or support new hire orientation, contractor safety, and other specialized health and safety training programs.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills, evaluations, and continuous improvement actions.
- Lead or coordinate external regulatory inspections, compliance agency visits, and related corrective action responses.
- Support internal, external, regulatory, and customer audits and ensure identified findings are appropriately addressed.
- Partner with LG Energy Solution health and safety professionals and global teams to share best practices, align standards, and support organizational initiatives.
- Provide technical coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to junior Health & Safety Specialists and other employees.
- Maintain required health and safety records, reports, regulatory documentation, audit records, and corrective action tracking.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience evaluating, implementing, and improving health and safety programs within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA requirements and applicable federal, state, and local workplace health and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated experience conducting complex workplace hazard assessments, incident investigations, audits, and corrective action activities.
- Experience developing, implementing, and independently managing health and safety programs.
- Experience leading cross-functional safety initiatives and influencing stakeholders across multiple levels of an organization.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
- Experience within battery, automotive, advanced manufacturing, or another highly automated manufacturing environment.
- Experience with automated manufacturing technology, chemical safety, electrical safety, ergonomics, machine safety, or other complex industrial hazards.
- 3+ years of demonstrated technical leadership, project leadership, mentoring, or similar experience.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and supporting external health and safety compliance inspections.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed in both manufacturing and office environments and requires regular presence on the production floor.
- May be exposed to noise, moving equipment, automated machinery, chemicals, electrical hazards, manufacturing materials, temperature variations, and other conditions typical of an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with applicable site safety requirements.
- Requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods while conducting inspections, assessments, investigations, and other safety activities.
- May require bending, reaching, climbing stairs, and accessing manufacturing and equipment areas as necessary to perform assigned responsibilities.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including additional or alternate hours as needed to support production operations, incident response, regulatory activities, training, or other safety needs.
