What To Expect
Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing “The machine that builds the machine”. We work with the cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, NPI, Production, Sustaining, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce battery modules for Tesla's cutting-edge power electronics.
What You'll Do
Develop manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and processes to support early-stage prototype builds and scale for high-volume productionDetermine and procure necessary equipment for all manufacturing processes, collaborating with integrators to design and manufacture equipment and fixturesManage suppliers through specification, design, buyoff, and installation of manufacturing equipmentCharacterize, validate, and optimize new equipment and fixtures for seamless production floor integrationDesign efficient production workstation layouts to enhance product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency while conducting process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, and capacity modeling/simulationProvide DFM (design for manufacturability) input to improve processes and yield outcomesCreate detailed manufacturing instructions and documentation to train technicians, implement new processes, and ensure smooth handoff to production and sustaining teams
What You'll Bring
3+ years of experience as a hands-on Mechanical/Manufacturing/Design Engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systemsExperience using 2D cad tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)Experience with conveyance, transducer-based fastening systems (Atlas Copco preferred), robotic systems (Fanuc preferred), adhesive dispensing, laser welding, vision-based inspection, and measurement systems (Keyence preferred) or automated functional testingExperience with GD & T and system stack up analysisExperience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment Experience providing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Automation (DFA) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
