Job Description
This position is responsible for ensuring Allison Transmission’s defense sales team for tracked armored combat vehicles, operates efficiently and effectively, focusing on both operational processes and strategic planning to drive sales growth in the international defense end market. The person in this role will support the Director of International Defense Programs and Offsets in the development of a comprehensive long-term sales strategy, while serving as a coach to OEM account managers who are domiciled outside the United States. The role will also manage sales operations for the team including program management / forecasting, order execution / contract deliverables and representation with cross-functional team members who are based in the United States headquarters, bridging the team with internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Designs and implements comprehensive sales strategies to drive business growth for the international defense end-market, focused on identifying new opportunities, optimizing the team’s sales processes, and aligning sales goals with overall Defense Programs’ business objectives.
- Mentor, train and coach international defense Account Managers on tracked vehicle products, strategy development, negotiation, relationship building, regional cultural awareness, and an understanding of internal Allison decision-making/approval processes.
- Represent the international defense sales team for product portfolio and technical road map reviews by synthesizing Voice of the Customer’s (VOC) requirements to inform product sustainment, advanced features, and new product development.
- Proactively identify, define, and solve complex problems that impact the direction of the business and management decisions with medium term risk associated with outcomes. Provide well thought out and thoroughly researched analysis, assessment, recommendations, and assumptions early and often in support of Allison’s decision-making processes.
- Maintain close coordination and regular communication with Allison’s regional offices (EMEA & APAC), authorized channel partners, Ministry of Defense armament officials, and senior leadership at OEMs who support the international defense end market.
- Serve as the primary liaison while supporting an OEM Account Manager for foreign defense OEMs, end-users or government officials visits to Allison Transmission’s headquarters for leadership engagement.
- Hold internal teams accountable and manages impacted customer communication (OEMs and Licensee) when a Quality action for a defense product has impacted the international market.
- Ensure cross-functional team members meet their assigned deliverables and responsibilities with respect to Sales Operations procedures. This entails product forecasting, order entry, shipment of product and any special procedures required under a customer contracted deliverable (e.g. consignment unit).
- Provide input to the annual Market Demand Forecast, and Sales and Operations Planning Meetings for international defense OEMs.
- Develop and maintain knowledge and compliance with Allison policies, procedures, departmental procedures, ITAR/EAR requirements and methods of conducting business with Government personnel.
- Assume the duties of Director, International Defense Programs & Offsets in their absence.
Required
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years’ experience, with at least 5-years of direct sales/account management experience and has been accountable for enterprise-wide projects and/or processes in the commercial or defense vehicle industry.
- Experience managing and/or developing new sales personnel, serving as a mentor/coach for the team.
- Past experience working internationally with an understanding of cultural diversity leading to adaptability, strong communication, and effective problem-solving through any differences that may arise.
- Experience with mechanical and electric architectures as the defense market moves toward hybrid vehicle solutions and requirements for electrical power generation.
- Ability to influence and interact with peers and subordinates in a professional, respectful manner.
- Strategic mindset with an ability to synthesize large and complex programs to a comprehensive sales strategy.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills combined with excellent oral and written communication abilities in English.
Preferred
- Master of Business Administration.
- Knowledge of Allison Transmission Business Systems, Processes and Management approach.
