Role SummaryThe Facilities Workplace Design team is Rivian’s in-house design team focused on the physical typologies of the brand; Office and R+D facilities. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative, creative thinker, with an experienced understanding of facility workplace and lab technical needs. The candidate will act as an Electrical Engineering subject matter expert for Workplace Facilities, while also serving as lead for general technical development (building systems). This is a dynamic position focused on cross-functional collaboration and translating the Rivian workplace needs into spaces that are functional, efficient, executed in such a way that is representative of our compass values.
Responsibilities- Independently develop and communicate design ideas through sketches, markups, drafting, or illustrations/renderings.
- Lead design development discussions around given programs to define the scope of the project. Coordinate and collaborate internally: Operations, Construction Managers, Environ. Health and Safety, Engineering, Data/IT, Security.
- Technical (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural) Design Lead drives due diligence analysis, feasibility studies and conceptual design parameters to inform Rivian Leadership on the workplace facility roadmap.
- Author Electrical Basis of Design for new projects as required to establish clear scope of services in requests for proposals.
- R&D technical expert to support the Facilities Workplace Leadership Team. Attend relevant leadership meetings where design decisions are discussed / reviewed, serve as point-of-contact for project engineering requirements.
- Produce pricing packages (and/or narratives) that define the final scope of a project, to be used for direct pricing to GCs or as hand-off documents to consulting AEORs.
- Independently coordinate and collaborate externally with consultants: architects, engineers, vendors, and fabricators.
- Identify and forecast long-lead infrastructure requirements based on early program development. Drive recommendations for alternative solutions.
- Lead initiatives with existing facilities for power monitoring and record taking to capture power use at our sites.
- Lead internal review efforts at documentation milestones. Point of contact for end-user specific questions.
- Leader working with local electric companies (SCE) for future planning, power upgrades, and facility development goals.
- Drive solutions for issues found in the field working with consulting architects/engineers.
- Visit sites with operations and end users to evaluate existing conditions and capture field investigation - including photos and as-built drawings as required.
- Anticipate and advise on end user space requests, monitor progress and incorporate into facility management system as needed.
- Collaborate with Workplace Development team on programming development and drive project approvals based on project urgency and standard payback justifications.
- Drive solutions for issues found in the field, working with consulting architects/engineers.
- Attend Equipment Supplier Coordination meetings, working closely with CapEx team to ensure proper responsibility
expectations are set between Facilities Development and Vendor-Provided Equipment Integration Teams. - Assist in development of equipment integration plans in conjunction with Workplace Program and Construction
- Manage.
Contribute to the office and team culture, initiatives, and strategy conversations.
Qualifications- Accredited bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or other relevant degree field. (8+) years’ experience with office/lab project design and construction administration.
- Proven ability to build relationships with stakeholders across multiple functions and at all levels, both within and outside of the organization.
- Proficient with Office, Autodesk Revit and Autocad, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Master of developing and referencing construction documents.
- Has an analytical, creative, innovative, and problem-solving mindset with an attention to detail
- Able to coordinate multiple projects at the same time, with the ability to shift focus very quickly and adjust to rapidly changing priorities.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication, negotiation, analytic, and critical thinking skills.
- Experience managing small and large-scale programs and projects.
- Self-starter who is goal-oriented, highly motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and process improvements.
- A customer service-oriented personality who brings positive energy and happiness to the workplace!
The physical demands associated with the duties and responsibilities described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform this job. This includes the ability to spend extended hours walking construction sites and traveling to different project sites and offices.
Pay DisclosureSalary Range for Irvine/El Segundo, CA based applicants: $137,000 - $172,000 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time and part-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Full Time Employee coverage is effective on the first day of employment. Part-Time employee coverage is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment.
