Who we are looking for:
Slate is looking for a dynamic, experienced Manufacturing Metrology Team Leader to join our growing team. The position will primarily focus on new products and process development and will play a pivotal role in ensuring a safe and successful launch. The role will utilize core quality skills and tools to manufacture and deliver the highest quality products within our various manufacturing processes. The expectation will be to work closely with internal and external partners to ensure we exceed customers' expectations.
What you get to do:
- Metrology & Laboratories is responsible for overseeing the calibration, testing, and measurement processes within the organization's laboratories. This role ensures compliance with industry standards, maintains the accuracy and reliability of measurement equipment, and leads a team of technicians and specialists in delivering high-quality metrology and laboratory services.
- Lead and manage a team of metrology technicians and laboratory staff, providing guidance, training, and performance oversight.
- Develop and implement calibration and measurement protocols to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 17025).
- Oversee laboratory operations, including testing procedures, instrument maintenance, and quality assurance practices.
- Coordinate internal audits ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to support metrology needs in manufacturing and research processes.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to improve measurement accuracy and efficiency and MSA requirements.
- Maintain detailed documentation of calibration procedures, test results, and equipment certifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to measurement systems and laboratory equipment.
- Ensure a safe and compliant laboratory environment, adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Provide technical expertise in metrology, guiding decision-making for measurement systems and laboratory improvements.
- Experience with statistical analysis and data interpretation for measurement systems.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies in measurement science.
- Laboratory and production environments require hands-on technical work.
- Interaction with cross-functional teams and external auditors.
- Develop and Implement Quality Processes
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work with various teams to ensure quality and metrology requirements are developed and seamlessly integrated into the manufacturing process.
- Perform Audits and Inspections: Regularly audit and inspect manufacturing processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and specifications, especially for the accuracy and precision of metrology equipment.
- Supplier Quality Management: Collaborate with the supplier quality team to set and monitor quality expectations for incoming materials and components, ensuring metrology standards
- are used and understood.
- Define Quality Processes and Standards for Metrology: Work with development, product management, and manufacturing teams to define quality processes and technical standards for metrology requirements.
- Provide Quality Support: Offer quality support to technical and manufacturing teams, driving and supporting daily operations with a focus on metrology, and lab support.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned, including those related to metrology.
What you bring to the team:
The role will be expected to have high integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness and strive to exhibit a positive and growth mindset. You will feel comfortable operating in a flexible and fast paced environment with a collaborative approach to achieving goals! You'll also bring:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Quality Management, and minimum of 12+ years of experience in engineering or quality assurance and control within a manufacturing environment.
- In lieu, 20+ experience in position
- Proven experience with Metrology processes in an automotive OEM or Tier 1.
- Proven experience with PC-DMIS, Polyworks, programming on and offline.
- Experience in metrology and the application of metrology standards in manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of metrology equipment and techniques with MSA requirements.
- Experience in using metrology data for quality validation and process improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- High attention to detail, especially in maintaining quality documentation and ensuring the accuracy and precision of metrology equipment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned, including those related to metrology.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, a high level of assertiveness as well as entrepreneurial thinking and goal- and result-oriented decision-making skills
- Proven track record of engaging and participating in high-performing teams.
- Good working knowledge of process documentation for Metrology and Laboratories.
- Highest level of integrity and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up environment.
