Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Principal EHS Engineer, Environmental to lead and manage environmental compliance initiatives across our manufacturing operations. This role is critical in ensuring our facilities meet all applicable environmental regulations and corporate standards, with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement, sustainability, and risk mitigation.
The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in environmental compliance within automotive or industrial manufacturing environments, and will serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for environmental programs across the organization.
What you get to do:
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, TSCA).
- Lead and manage environmental programs including air emissions, hazardous waste, stormwater, wastewater, and chemical management.
- Conduct environmental audits and inspections; develop and implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and submit required environmental reports and permits (e.g., Tier II, TRI, NPDES, HMIS).
- Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and external auditors.
- Develop and deliver environmental training programs for employees and contractors.
- Drive sustainability initiatives, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Operations, Maintenance) to integrate environmental considerations into projects and processes.
- Develop, maintain, and improve the Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 standards.
- Monitor and analyze environmental performance metrics, report trends, and recommend improvements.
What you bring to the team:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental compliance within a manufacturing or industrial environment, preferably in the automotive or heavy duty vehicle sector.
- In-depth knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Experience with ISO 14001 EMS implementation and maintenance.
- Technically proficient in interpreting drawings and schematics to support effective engineering solutions.
- Passion for continuous improvement, innovation, and building safe, sustainable manufacturing systems.
- Highly adaptable and proactive, excelling in fast-paced start-up and new model launch environments.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams and managing stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Attributes:
- Professional certifications, such as CHMM, QEP, or PE (Environmental), are highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to travel, both domestic and international (up to 25%).
- Must have the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
- Must have the ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
