Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid connected battery systems at residential, industrial, and utility levels.
The Tesla Energy compliance team is looking for an amazing machinery safety engineer who is passionate about product safety and reliability to drive the world’s transition to a sustainable future. In this role you will work with the Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratories (NRTLs) and our product design teams to bring our novel machinery systems to the market. The systems incorporate electrical and mechanical control functions, battery modules and charging circuits to meet national and international regulatory standards such as ASNI, UL, ISO, IEC etc.
What You'll Do
Contribute to the compliance product design architecture reviewsCollaborate closely with the cross functional engineering teams to integrate and test safety functions during product development and verification phasesDevelop and implement robust safety methodologies and processes to ensure the safe operation of machinery safety-critical systemsReview product specifications, test plans, and develop test procedure and pass/fail criteria for the safety and performance functionsDebug/RCA non-conformities of products and work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance certificatesConvert problem statements to specification requirements for machinery constructionsCompliance validation and data analysis which includes battery systems and battery chargersPerform product safety testing, troubleshooting and bug fixing with Tesla cross functional teams
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Machinery Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experienceMinimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in safety evaluations for machinery systems or similar productsUnderstanding the EU CE requirements, North American Listings and APAC regulations and Compliance/ certification experience per ANSI/CAN/UL/IEC/EN/ISO standardsIn-depth knowledge of industrial machinery safety standards, including but not limited to NFPA 70, NFPA 79, UL508A, UL3100, UL 1740, R15.06, R15.08, Z434, IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, and IEC 61508, etc.Demonstrated experience of taking products through the certification processAbility to navigate/interpret ambiguity of various product safety standardsExperience with laboratory test equipment and data acquisition systems, such as the oscilloscopes, the power analyzers, data loggers, etc. Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering components, understanding of how they interact in complex productsKnowledge of product safety and compliance, knows how to do the construction reviews and making testing packages per national (ANSI/UL/CAN) and International (IEC/EN/ISO) safety standardsWilling to travel nationally and internationally between Tesla facilities and testing laboratories

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
