What To Expect
The candidate will work as a member of Tesla’s Materials Engineering Test Team to support material level test and development activities. The role includes overseeing a wide variety of tests and associated test equipment, ranging from simple scratch testing devices to large mechanical test equipment and environmental chambers. Depending on the applicant under consideration, the position will be based in one of the three Materials Engineering Test Labs located in Fremont (California, USA), Shanghai (CN) or Berlin (DE)
What You'll Do
Perform a wide variety of tests on a broad spectrum of materials: mechanical and fastener testing, environmental testing, material characterization, and sample fabrication Conduct testing in an extremely fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Interface with a broad spectrum of internal customers to coordinate sample preparation, test updates and observationsIndependently complete materials tests and generate reports or summaries of findingsManagement of laboratory assets, ensuring all equipment is maintained, calibrated, and servicedDevelop, author, and ensure conformance to laboratory standard operating proceduresSupport engineering staff in the root cause analysis of test failures and development of new test methodsSupport management in the procurement, purchase, and installation of new equipment
What You'll Bring
Practical knowledge and working experience within a materials test lab or similar, including basic understanding of diverse types of materialsExperience operating and maintaining materials test equipment and/or environmental chambers is preferred. Experience working with hand tools, sample preparation equipment and CAD software is a plusFamiliarity with materials-centric test standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, SAE)Experience working with hazardous materials, with a willingness to exhibit and promote health and safety across the teamStrong interpersonal and communication skills to establish effective working relationshipsAn ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and manage time independently; must maintain top level professional integrity and appearance throughout

Expected Compensation
$24.40 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
