The Role:
Electric Drive Calibration and Integration Engineering at General Motors is a fast-paced team that working on a developing technology. We're creating cutting-edge electric drive systems that provide industry leading performance for current and future Electric Vehicles. Our team is critical to achieving GM’s vision of Zero Emissions, Zero Crashes, and Zero Congestion.
In this role you’ll be responsible for executing electric drive calibration design, analysis, development, testing, documentation, and release for electrified vehicle applications. We will give you the opportunity to achieve program landmarks by allowing you to display your technical and program management skills. In this role, creativity, initiative, and independent judgment are involved, and effective cross-organizational teamwork is needed. You’ll bring your knowledge and background to help us meet our goals and continue GM’s Electrification success!
Responsibilities:
- Develop electric drive calibrations for application in EV, Hybrid and Fuel Cell vehicles.
- Perform motor characterization and analysis using a combination of modeling, simulation, and physical testing.
- Analyze motor characterization data and refine calibrations to optimize electric drive performance.
- Work closely with motor, inverter, electric drive, control system, software, development, and validation engineering teams to ensure on-time release of calibrations for vehicle programs.
- Collaborate with vehicle calibration and development teams to support vehicle integration and testing.
- Document and communicate calibration releases through peer and management reviews per program timing.
- Actively pursue cost reduction, size reduction and efficiency improvement through participation in advanced projects involving electric drive calibration.
- Perform complex diagnostics and problem solving.
- Provide test direction to lab technicians, lead technicians, and supervisors.
- Stay abreast of new product and test technology.

Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of design, development, and testing related to motor calibration.
- Knowledge of electric drive controls, motor controls optimization, and calibration theory and principles.
- Understanding of power electronics and electric machine operation fundamentals.
- Knowledge of engineering design techniques and principles.
- Ability to create and present information to leadership, peers, customers, and suppliers in a clear and concise manner.
- Available to travel to support calibration testing and development trips.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with domestic and international business partners.
- Ability to work non-standard hours to collaborate with overseas suppliers.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work with minimum supervision and full autonomy.
What Gives You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Highly preferred Bachelor of Science degree with specialization in controls, electric drives, motors, or power electronics.
- Masters degree or PhD degree with specialization in controls, electric drives, motors, or power electronics preferred.
- 2+ years of related engineering experience
- Design, development, validation, or release experience.
- Hands-on motor controls software development, testing, and implementation.
- Hands-on experience in advanced electric drive modeling, analysis, and optimization.
- Experience with analysis and optimization of hybrid/electric vehicle controls.
- Experience using commercial tools for electric drive testing and calibration.
- Hands-on experience working in high-voltage laboratory and dynamometer environment.
- Understanding of electrified vehicle system and integration.
- Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink, Simplorer or other commercial tools for modeling and simulation of electric drives.
- Knowledge of C and C++ programming languages.
- Knowledge of embedded compiler, debugging tools and software.
- Technical problem-solving skills and experience in the production domain to address vehicle level issues.
