Job Description
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan three times per week, at minimum during weeks when not traveling.
This position requires travel up to 75% in US and Canada & up to 5% globally.
The Role
General Motors is seeking an highly self-motivated Engineer who enjoys working on plastic and metal Chroming processes to improve quality and coach others. This Engineer will need an extensive background in plating processes, the ability to trouble shoot and lead SQE's, Suppliers, and other's in the area Metal/Plastic Plating. This position requires both hands-on experience and ability to collaborate with various departments as well as regions outside of the US. We are seeking an Engineer who can work well in a team, be innovative, and think outside of the box!
What You'll Do
- Global Process Lead (GPL) for Chrome process in supplier Quality and development.
- Provide technical support & training to GM Supplier Quality Engineers in the areas of Plastics and Metal Chroming processes and quality systems.
- Assure supplier understanding and compliance with all General Motors and Industry Standards and best practices for Plastics and Metal Chroming processes.
- Develop, update and calibrate execution of Chrome manufacturing requirements globally for supplier manufacturing process controls.
- Approve new Chrome suppliers and help to develop suppliers. Ensure that suppliers are capable to produce parts to GM specification. Recertify suppliers when applicable.
- Review and approve supplier manufacturing, tooling and quality plans for new Plastics and Metal Chroming processes and operations.
- Assist in determining root cause of supplier manufacturing issues and implementing timely, effective, and efficient quality resolutions.
- Improve Chrome quality performance of suppliers by conducting onsite audits, workshops and training at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing robust Chrome and quality systems, and other technical support as required.
- Provide technical assistance during supplier launch, change-over and ongoing production activities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Global Chrome, Material Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and Purchasing functions to refine and improve Supplier Chrome systems to exceed customer quality requirements.
In addition to being the Chrome Expert:
Gain experience with other SMT’s, Supplier Quality GCL’s (Global Commodity Leads), and Global Supplier Quality
- Global Coordinator for all SMT GRA’s (Global Read Across)
- This involves sending out and tracking GRA’s
- Utilizing Auros as a sign-off
- Training Coordinator for our GPL 101 and 201 Training
- Within and Outside Supplier Quality
- Work with Training Organization to transfer training into ILM courses
- Lead the weekly Team Meeting
- Coordinate the special topics

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Technical Area, or related
- Five years’ OEM and/or Tiered supplier experience in automotive Chrome process, engineering, maintenance and operations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Chrome manufacturing processes, procedures, tooling, equipment and facilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Chrome control processes, verification procedures and documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to investigate Chrome quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with a high level of analytical ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action for definition and resolution where problems are complex.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate and facilitate others in group situations and instruct others in new techniques.
- Strong verbal & written communication skills to support technology documentation and training requirements.
- Ability to prioritize work with limited direction from management.
- Ability to travel up to 75% in US and Canada, Up to 5% globally.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Business
- Five to Ten years’ OEM and/or Tiered supplier experience in automotive Chrome process manufacturing, engineering, maintenance and operations.
- Demonstrated experience and capability in the following operations and systems: Approved Materials and Approved Chrome on Parts (APOPS), Part Cleaning, Film Build and Bake Requirements.
- RedX and DFSS certifications
