Work Arrangement
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center three times per week, at minimum. Occasional work will also require time at the Milford Proving Ground.
The Role
We are seeking a high energy, customer focused individual to join our team as a Service Subsystem Engineer (SSE). The SSE is the single point owner for programming and diagnostic needs for given system/feature. Their focus is to develop, validate, and implement common serviceability specifications, and then build both programming and diagnostic data content. The position will include crafting, validating, and releasing various vehicle electrical subsystem diagnostic data & programming content used in the Techline Connect diagnostic and vehicle applications.
This position is highly innovative and cross-functional in nature, requiring collaboration with multiple business units, Joint Ventures and business partners. This role also plays a key contribution role in defining the next generation of GM Diagnostic Service applications, serviceability, and related development processes for new electrical architectures. Work is performed in a centralized engineering activity where the highest level of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as the highest level of independent judgment.
A successful SSE will facilitate the flawless release of content necessary for technicians to program, diagnose, maintain, and repair GM products globally. The SSE will continuously monitor and resolve issues, opportunities throughout the product lifecycle.
What You’ll Do
Subsystem and/or Control Module Requirements
- Single point owner of the preparation of service requirements for programming, Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) assignments, serial data control functions, and parametric data.
- Verify and/or test the programming and Diagnostic Software service requirements aligned with the product development schedule
- Identify, address or escalate serviceability issues as appropriate (e.g. Executive Summary, 5-Phase, Problem Resolution Tracking System, Jira, WCAR, etc).
Diagnostic Software Data & Service Programming System
- Partner with Product Development on diagnostic specifications and programming serviceability needs.
- Lead the service programming, setup, and learn implementation (e.g. "type 4"s)
- Develop and test diagnostic scan tool and vehicle application software routines. Complete development and test work to product development schedules, beginning during development (e.g. Bench, CVF, Pre-Production Vehicle) and culminating through Ship To Commerce STC.
Cross Functional Aftersales Team Collaboration
- Provide Service Information Developers (SID) and Vehicle System Engineers (VSE) with subsystem and/or module level diagnostic & programming requirements on time with quality.
- Lead collaboration with Service Information Developers (SID), Vehicle System Engineers (VSE) and Product Development for serviceability comprehension and execution.
- Support manufacturing preproduction and saleable products with diagnostic scan tool and service programming readiness for specific area of responsibility.
- Provide GM Technical Assistance Center (TAC) and Techline Connect Customer Service Center (TCSC) with module/features systems technology support and drive to >95% Service Programming First Time Quality (SFTQ)
Special Tools
- Act as Voice of Service to advocate for implementations that do not require special tools, targets, or fixtures to service.
- Where unavoidable, support development and validation of service special tools and procedures
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- At least 5 years experience working with vehicle electrical architecture standards and vehicle serial data communications/networks.
- At least 3 years' experience in project management strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to assess risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Problem solving skills and the ability to think critically in high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in project management tools and software.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
- Bachelor’s degree; Electrical, Software Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge:
- Strong familiarity with GM VIP electrical architecture and forthcoming electrical architecture design.
- Aftersales Operations and Process knowledge/experience.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with GM’s Service Programming System (SPS), and Global Diagnostics Tool (GDS 2) and their upstream authoring systems.
