Position Summary
Leading a team of software engineers responsible for the development, calibration, and test of vehicle functional control system software. The Software Engineering Manager will also develop a support structure for a variety of applications from vehicle charging and operation to communication interfaces. The Software Engineering Manager will be the go-to technical lead on everything software-related and will charter the organization's software strategy to make OEV best-in-class.
Position Responsibilities
- Work with Key Suppliers to create and improve select firmware to improve product performance
- Work with Field Service to address Key Customer needs and issues
- Work with Sales to understand customer needs and create market-driven design solutions
- Work with peers to ensure hardware and software solutions are integrated into the vehicle seamlessly, including propulsion, hydraulic, pneumatic, and cab systems, etc.
- Ensure projects are completed to pre-specified cost, performance, and timing
- Communicate project progression via internal project management tools
- Develop the technology roadmap for designated systems and hardware/software
- Supervise team output, providing mentorship through regular code reviews and design crits.
- Own the technical implementation of software and controls for AC and DC systems, power conversion, including customer interface systems.
- Drive the architecture, design, and development of all embedded software from battery management to high-speed sensors to motor controllers
- Own, develop, and test embedded software from low-level hardware drivers to real-time control and signal processing algorithms
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science from an accredited university. Graduate degree preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and team coaching skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with C language and embedded software systems
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with developing software & controls.
- Minimum of 5 years direct management experience in a similar role.
- Expertise in software configuration management and change management practices
