What To Expect
The Test Systems Engineering team consists of a unique blend of Mechanical, Electrical, and Software Engineers supported by a highly versatile BCS (Build, Commissioning, Support) Team. Our primary focus of providing scalable internal test solutions extends across the vehicle and energy sectors of Tesla and more recently has expanded to support new areas unrelated to either. We highly value the creativity and professional expertise that each member brings with them as we continue to accelerate product development cycles and leverage Tesla’s internal technology by reducing cost and complexity.
As and Engineering Technician at Tesla you will be asked to action on a variety of tasks and/or lead projects. This position requires a skilled, independent, and reliable individual who is excited to collaborate with others from a variety of technical backgrounds. You will showcase your problem-solving abilities by providing creative solutions to unique, time-sensitive problems regularly and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
What You'll Do
In collaboration with Engineers, design, build, operate, and maintain test fixtures, setups, and ad hoc equipment for R&D projects, including development and qualification testing on mechanical and electrical hardware with minimal supporting documentationPerform light fabrication and assembly tasks, including operation of manual machining tools, welders, common shop, power, and hand toolsMaintain or create documentation during fault finding, maintenance, or upgrade activitiesUnderstand and follow safety and environmental regulations, as well as identifies safety and environmental concernsImprove test capability and efficiency by making continuous improvements to test methods, rigs, equipment and by communicating feedback to EngineersConduct post-test teardowns to evaluate failure modes of concernBuild high quality harnesses, cables, and enclosures per Engineering documentationMaintain a clean, safe, and organized working environment throughout builds, effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
What You'll Bring
Experience working in a fast-paced R&D environment focused on transitioning conceptual designs to fully validated functional prototypesWilling to travel domestic and international when necessaryAbility to lift 45 lbs. when neededStrong mechanical assembly knowledge (able to disassemble and reassemble prototype equipment with minimal documentation)Materials organization (kitting materials per project requirements)Excellent oral and written communication3-5+ years demonstrated hands-on work experience in a related field/environmentExperience utilizing Jira, SharePoint, and ConfluenceWork experience troubleshooting equipment with multiple levels of subsystemsPractical knowledge of CAN and LIN protocols

Expected Compensation
$24.40 - $50.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
