What To Expect
Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around January or February 2025 and continue through the entire Spring term (i.e. through May 2025) or into Spring/Summer 2025, if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

What You'll Do
Your application for the Facilities & Construction Engineer, Infrastructure Internship will be considered across all opportunities for the teams listed below:
Architecture:
Interns on this team will support the team with field support, documentation, permit issuance packages, and quantity take-offs, as well as assist with production drawing, material investigation, renderings, design options, and more.
BIM:
Interns will work cross-functionally to develop an integrated model delivery approach and lead clash detection sessions, focused on optimizing the construction process and driving quality and value. They will also introduce, support, and oversee the implementation of industry-leading BIM technology.
Chemical:
Interns will prepare a variety of engineering deliverables: Basis of Design and Engineering narratives, regulatory/code research, conceptual design, performance specifications, Hazardous-Operations reviews, sequence of operations. They will also participate in the operation and monitoring of various chemical engineering unit operations such as pressure swing absorbers, cryogenic gas vaporizers, hazardous chemical delivery, storage, and processing equipment, condensers, absorbers, and other utility equipment in a 24-hour production facility to ensure reliable service to all areas of the site. Some of the relevant duties as they pertain to project management include coordination with purchasing, contractors, Environmental and Safety, implementation, then training of personnel on new system/modification.
Civil:
This intern will support the design and construction of industrial, manufacturing, and office facilities and related site infrastructure including roadways and underground utilities, as well as the preparation of civil engineering design drawings, plans, profiles, sections, and details. They will work with the BIM/CAD support team to achieve consistent results and incorporate new design into the existing facility models.
Controls:
Interns on this team will create design drawings, instrument schedules, and installation drawings, as well as program PLCs to automate the process and mechanical systems. They will also support the scope development of PFDs, P&IDs, and 3D pipe design development and specification development of equipment, piping, material compatibility analysis, and more.
Construction:
This intern will coordinate with the construction team, on-site contractors, vendors, and suppliers for site laydown and logistics coordination. They will also collect, monitor, and present construction project progress updates and goal reporting, as well as review and expedite RFI responses and closeout.
Electrical:
Interns on this team will assist with design procedures, resource allocation, and project coordination to support the development and maintenance procedures for the facilities systems. They will create and build electrical drawings following construction, as well as build out single line screens into a power monitoring system.
Facilities:
Interns will deliver solutions to operate and maintain sites, offices, and labs, onsite services and experiences that help employees stay safe, productive and drive intel's sustainability. They will become familiar with maintenance and operations of large facilities systems including high/medium/low voltage power distribution and the components associated, HVAC systems, Industrial compressed systems, chilled and heating water systems. Additionally, they will gain an understanding of air handling, pump and piping systems and troubleshooting procedures along with operational issues that can arise in these systems. This intern will also become familiar with system alarms, learn how to review the parameter trends to assess the health of the systems, or use disciplined analytics and problem solving to deliver best-in-class system reliability and uninterrupted factory operation.
Fire Protection:
Interns will research building and fire code compliance solutions and create fire protection system design criteria for new production lines/materials in the facility. They will perform hazardous material analysis for code compliances purposes, such as chemical classification, chemical quantity analysis, chemical inventory management, and related system design support. They will also review and comment on shop drawing design packages developed by contractors.
Mechanical:
This intern will support quality and quantity adjustment efforts with contractors, schedule, track, and expedite mechanical and piping activities and installations, and review and manage mechanical drawings and submissions.
