Manager, Line Delivery & Sequencing
EV.Careers is currently seeking a direct hire Manager, Line Delivery & Sequencing (Manager, Material Supply Assembly / Inhouse Logistics) for one of our partners, an American automotive OEM launching a next generation electric and range-extended vehicle program at a brand new assembly plant in the Southeast United States. In this role, you will own the entire inhouse logistics operation for the Assembly Shop — ensuring the right parts reach the right workstation, in the right sequence, at the right time, across all three production shifts, without stopping the line.
Responsibilities
- Build up and manage the Inhouse Logistics Operations Team responsible for inhouse parts sequencing and line-feeding for series production in the Assembly Shop
- Lead a team of approximately 200 hourly team members across three production shifts, plus 20 specialists, to ensure parts sequencing and line feeding
- Ensure the operation of logistical equipment, including the organization and implementation of emergency, maintenance, and repair concepts
- Ensure safety of operations within own area of responsibility, including ecological considerations
- Plan and implement new logistics processes, structures, and equipment for the logistical supply of series production in the Assembly Shop
- Execute problem-solving and series optimization to ensure no production stop due to logistical failures
- Own recruiting, qualification planning, and development of own personnel (white collar and blue collar), including outsourced personnel where required
- Coordinate annual inventory (full containers and empties) and permanent inventory within own area of responsibility
- Define and track KPIs with clear ownership, and coordinate problem-solving activity when targets deviate
- Analyze and manage the department budget, and develop countermeasures to address deviations
- Maintain accuracy of reference data in VW Group proprietary systems
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in logistics or production in the automotive industry, with an OEM background (this Hiring Manager will not consider candidates from an automotive supplier)
- 5+ years of people-leader experience in an operative environment, leading teams of 200+
- Bachelor's or master's degree in business management, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
- Detailed knowledge and experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO, VDA, etc.)
- Hands-on experience with Just-in-Time (JIT) and Just-in-Sequence (JIS) material delivery
- Experience writing, creating, or defining inhouse material flow processes
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and production Takt time alignment
- Experience with material handling systems, inventory strategy, and internal transport (tuggers, AGVs, forklifts)
- Experience with line feeding operations, supermarkets (picking), and staging areas
- Affinity for complex IT systems; SAP experience desired
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and report writing/presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous planning and strategy experience within automotive logistics
- Direct experience managing the flow of full containers and empties
- Prior experience at a high-volume OEM assembly plant
