Position Summary
The Vice President, Data Center Operations will lead steady-state operations across TeraWulf’s portfolio of mission-critical data center campuses.
This role is accountable for site leadership, staffing, maintenance execution, incident response, operating budgets, infrastructure availability and customer service delivery. The Vice President will build and lead a high-performing operating organization capable of supporting hyperscale AI infrastructure and consistently meeting customer uptime and service commitments.
The role will work closely with Data Center Reliability and Operational Excellence, Engineering, Construction, IT and site leadership. Operational Excellence will lead readiness and the transition from construction into operations; the Vice President, Data Center Operations will own ongoing site execution and performance following handoff.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Operations
· Lead steady-state operations across all data center campuses with direct accountability for site teams and operating performance.
· Establish operating priorities, performance expectations, decision rights and escalation protocols across the portfolio.
· Conduct regular operating reviews covering staffing, maintenance, incidents, customer requirements, budgets and operational risk.
· Drive consistent operating standards, discipline and accountability across all sites.
Critical Infrastructure & Maintenance
· Oversee operation of mission-critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including substations, switchgear, generators, UPS systems and cooling systems.
· Own execution of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programs.
· Hold site leaders accountable for maintenance quality, backlog management, documentation and corrective actions.
· Partner with Reliability and Operational Excellence and Engineering on maintenance strategy, asset health and continuous improvement.
Site Leadership & Workforce
· Build, lead and develop the site operations organization across the portfolio.
· Ensure appropriate staffing, leadership coverage, technical training, qualification and 24/7 operational support.
· Partner with HR and Recruiting on workforce planning, hiring, retention and succession planning.
· Develop strong site leaders with clear accountability for safety, reliability, maintenance and customer delivery.
Incident Response, Safety & Customer Delivery
· Ensure safety is integrated into all operating and maintenance activities.
· Serve as the senior Operations leader for significant outages, emergencies and service-impacting incidents.
· Ensure operating teams meet availability objectives, customer SLAs and communication requirements.
· Partner with Reliability and Operational Excellence on root-cause analysis, corrective actions and lessons learned.
· Maintain strong operating relationships with customers and ensure issues are resolved with urgency and accountability.
Financial Performance
· Own portfolio operating budgets and manage labor, maintenance, vendors, contractors and other operating resources.
· Drive operating efficiency without compromising safety, reliability or customer service.
· Hold site leaders accountable for budget and cost performance.
· Construction-to-Operations Integration
· Represent steady-state Operations throughout design, construction, commissioning and expansion activities.
· Partner with Operational Excellence on readiness, commissioning and formal handoff.
· Provide operating input on maintainability, staffing, procedures and lifecycle requirements.
· Assume operating accountability following handoff and lead ongoing stabilization and performance.
Qualifications
· 10+ years of leadership experience in mission-critical operations, including significant experience in hyperscale, colocation or large-scale data center operations.
· 2+ years in operations of liquid cooled data centers.
· Demonstrated experience leading operations across multiple facilities or a distributed portfolio.
· Direct accountability for staffing, maintenance, reliability, budgets, incidents and customer service.
· Strong understanding of mission-critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
· Experience with CMMS, DCIM, BMS, EPMS, SCADA and critical maintenance programs.
· Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, geographically dispersed teams.
· Strong operational judgment, vendor-management skills and composure during significant operating events.
· Experience in power generation, utilities or other critical infrastructure is beneficial in addition to meaningful data center operating experience.
