What To Expect
The role requires to provide the technical controls, electrical and automation support for new manufacturing line equipment, taking the lead in current Factory control systems, and ensuring consistency and knowledge sharing across manufacturing lines. This role requires a hands-on Engineer to work closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance, Sustaining and External Vendors.
What You'll Do
Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limitsArchitect, develop and debug PLC code with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), LabView, machine vision, and 3rd party equipmentImplement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipmentParticipate in Tesla specification and standard creation, release to Vendor and quote technical evaluationEnforce application of Tesla standards, Manage suppliers during specification, design review, design approvalEstablish test plans and control test plan execution at Vendor and at Tesla facility during installation and buy-offCharacterize and validate new automated process equipment for deployment into productionDebug and optimize automated processes to maximize cycle time, improve availability and yieldCharacterize and validate automated processes using a data driven approach such as simulation, Capacity and Capability statistical test (Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility test, Cpk, etc)Create data management and tracking communications network architecture and interface with cross-functional teams for product, processes and quality traceability control implementation
What You'll Bring
Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent – Majors in: Controls and Computer Control Systems, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics, etc.), or equivalent experience Demonstrated proficiency in PLC, HMI, and debugging mechatronic systemsExposure to programming microcontrollers and motor controllers – Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff, SEW are the primary equipment brands used in the factoryExposure to programming robots online and offline – Fanuc, Kuka, Durr are the primary brands used in the factoryProficiency with CAD (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks) is a plusExemplary verbal and written communication skillsMastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, VisioSome travel is expected - e.g. for vendor visits, equipment installation and commissioning
