Purpose of the position
Come join the company that created the SMART board industry and is now redefining the whiteboard! SMART is looking for an energetic and passionate Electrical Engineer. Reporting to the Manager, Electrical Engineering, you will be responsible for developing new products that incorporate 4K HDMI, cutting edge touch technology and the latest collaboration tools. You will also provide technical program leadership and direction for other electrical engineers in this role.
Duties and Responsibilities
Your duties will encompass a broad spectrum of tasks within your department. You will be expected to devote your full time and attention to your duties at SMART. As SMART continues to grow and its business requirements change, your duties within this position will evolve. Initially, some of the specific duties will involve the following:
- Designing and developing electronics for new product development, including creating technical specifications, layout and schematics, test plans and coverage, and design documentation from initial concept through mass production.
- Designing and implementing Circuit and PCB-level systems that will form parts of larger systems or products
- Use of AI tools to accelerate data analysis and problem solving.
- Responsible for the design of analog, digital, and power circuitry that meets the system's requirements and the business.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and negotiate design tradeoffs with other functional groups.
- Detailed qualification and verification of new designs to meet quality and reliability requirements.
- Ensuring that designs meet appropriate global regulatory requirements
- Work scoping and estimates. Committing to project dates and work.
- Appropriate project planning and working with Project Managers to ensure EE deliverables are clear and up to date.
- Customer escalations field troubleshooting.
- 3rd party supplier design verification.
- Performing other duties as required
Education and work experience
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized university.
- At least 3 years of experience in relevant electronics design, with a proven record of success in product delivery.
- Experience in embedded computing systems, computing architecture, interfaces.
- Experience performing schematic and layout activities independently, and have experience with PCB CAD design packages – preferably Altium Designer
- Solid grasp of the concepts surrounding Design for Manufacture, and EMC mitigation methods
- A drive to creatively seek methods for optimizing cost and manufacturability.
- Must be familiar with and able to operate a wide range of electronic test equipment
- Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to evaluate the long-term implications and consequences of potential solutions
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team and to contribute ideas and insights into project decisions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required to share ideas with other departments.
- Excellent organizational skills and prioritizing tasks in a dynamic R&D environment. Preferably, experience in working with global manufacturers to successfully deliver products to the market.
Supervision
- This position does not have any direct reports

- You may be required to spend up to 10 percent of work hours traveling. Accordingly, you are required to have no impediments to international travel, and you should have and maintain a valid passport and any other travel related documents necessary for the purposes of travel.

- This is a Calgary in office-based role
