Chelmsford, MA (on-site) with ~50% travel to customer sites · Full-time · Direct hire
EV.Careers is seeking a full-time, direct-hire Operations & Service Technician for one of our partners: a Chelmsford, Massachusetts manufacturer of modular, battery-agnostic energy storage systems for commercial, industrial, and residential customers. In this hands-on role you will own the full technical lifecycle of the company’s deployed Mobile Power Station hardware — from acceptance testing and in-house repair to field troubleshooting, failure analysis, and structured feedback to the engineering team.
This is a builder’s seat at a small, founder-led company. You will split your time roughly evenly between hands-on technical operations at the Chelmsford facility and on-site service travel to customer locations. You will partner directly with Engineering to investigate failures, validate hardware improvements, and evaluate prototype units, while making sure equipment is properly prepared, tested, and ready to deploy. The role also carries limited warehouse operations, inventory management, and shipping, so you will have real ownership over how the service and operations function runs and matures.
Responsibilities
Quality, Returns & Logistics
- Perform QA checks and acceptance testing on a subset of incoming and outgoing inventory.
- Track and manage field returns and RMAs, keeping accurate records and timely turnaround.
- Maintain organized documentation for shipped, returned, and repaired or refurbished units.
Repair & Technical Support
- Repair and refurbish Mobile Power Station units in-house, documenting findings, work performed, and parts used.
- Evaluate new hardware prototypes and provide structured feedback to engineering.
- Manage the repair station, including scheduling, tools, spare parts, and workflow.
- Provide technical support to the business team, troubleshooting customer issues by phone and video.
Field Service (~50% travel)
- Travel to key customer sites to service, repair, or replace equipment.
- Perform structured troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and repairs in the field when necessary.
- Track and report recurring issues and failure trends back to the engineering team.
Warehouse & Operations
- Establish, document, and continuously improve warehouse processes and standard operating procedures.
- Manage equipment inventory: Mobile Power Station units, solar panels, and associated accessories such as cages, wheels, and cabling.
- Perform hands-on warehouse work: moving equipment, crating and uncrating, packaging, labeling, and freight preparation.
- Coordinate outbound and inbound shipments, ensuring proper packaging and damage prevention.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in operations, warehouse, field service, or technical support roles.
- Comfort with tools, basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and structured repair processes.
- Strong organizational skills across inventory tracking, shipping records, and RMA documentation.
- Clear communication skills for customer support and internal reporting.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel roughly 50% of the time.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs independently using proper technique; heavier items use a team lift or mechanical assistance, consistent with ergonomic best practices such as the NIOSH lifting approach.
- Ability to push, pull, and position equipment, including rolling ~400 lb units on wheels.
- Ability to stand, bend, and work with tools for extended periods in a warehouse or customer-site environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with crating and freight logistics, or with shipping hazardous or oversized equipment.
- Familiarity with QA and acceptance-testing processes.
- Hands-on experience with power electronics or energy storage equipment.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation for the Greater Boston market (details shared early in the process).
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k), equity, and paid time off.
- Direct access to leadership and engineering at a small, founder-led company where your work directly improves a differentiated product.
- Hands-on work with a battery-agnostic storage platform engineered to deliver significantly more usable capacity from a wide range of battery chemistries.
