Tesla is looking to hire a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to contribute to the analysis and development of structural joining, bonding and forming processes for our cutting-edge battery products. In this role you will drive technological advancement in this discipline as part of a small, specialized team. Battery development is at the heart of our company, and this is an exciting opportunity to work directly on the central challenges with electric vehicles – battery cost and performance. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects. This role requires domestic and international travel as needed.
What You'll Do
Evaluate candidate structural manufacturing process strategies for new high voltage battery productsProvide joining Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Reliability (DFR) input to product designersGuide cross-functional down-selection of optimal applied process strategy, tech, and product interface definitionsRigorous process and equipment development to achieve capability, performance, and quality targetsProcess validation and optimization from initial prototype builds through release to full-scale productionDrive proof-of-concept to green light new and novel methods, technologies, and suppliersEvolve the structural manufacturing knowledge base through experiments, standards and benchmarking
What You'll Bring
6+ years of engineering, or equivalent relevant experienceDemonstrated experience in the data-driven development and implementation of high-volume structural joining and sealing methods including product interfaces, materials, processes, and equipment (adhesives, potting, sealants, form-in-place gaskets, curing, fastening, riveting, clinching, pressing, hemming, welding, other)Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and experimental designDegree in Engineering, or equivalent experience
