Take your next career step at ABB E-Mobility with a global team that is energizing the transformation of society and industry to achieve a more productive, sustainable future. As a Project Engineer at ABB E-mobility, you sit at the technical heart of our Europe Projects team—turning customer-specific engineering challenges into clean, scalable, repeatable solutions. From large depot installs and new product introductions to non-standard integrated systems, you will own the technical delivery from order commitment through Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). Working hand-in-hand with Customer Success Managers, Sales, Product, and Operations teams, your expertise directly enables ABB's customers to charge smarter, faster, and more reliably across Europe. This role best suits an electrical engineer who loves technical complexity, thrives in the field as much as at the desk, and with a desire to accelerate the clean energy transition.
The preferred location is Italy, other locations in Europe may be considered during the recruitment process.
In This Role Your Main Accountabilities Will Be
- Translate Complexity into Scalable Solutions – Convert recurring, customer-specific engineering challenges into standardized, reusable frameworks—covering site design, power distribution (up to 600V), cable/breaker sizing, single line diagrams, control circuits, and integration of ABB E-mobility products with third-party systems
- Drive Installation & Commissioning Readiness – Review customer site design documentation for accuracy and completeness, validate installation details, conduct site walkdowns, and confirm readiness for commissioning—ensuring every deployment meets contractual milestones and ABB quality standards
- Own Troubleshooting from Commissioning Through Post-Site Acceptance – Provide expert technical support for site electrical, interoperability, and system integration issues across commissioning, SAT, and post-acceptance phases.
- Deliver Complex & Non-Blueprint Engineered Solutions – Lead engineering design and delivery for non-standard project scopes including skid solutions, local controls and interface panels, BESS integrations, and pole planning—building scalable programs that can be managed through third-party partners over time
- Bridge Engineering, Sales & Customer Success – Collaborate cross-functionally with Customer Success Managers, Sales, Asset Management, and Product teams to align technical deliverables with customer expectations, drive delivery efficiency, and continuously improve the handover from commercial commitment to technical execution
To make the above work, we are seeking a candidate with:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical distribution systems (up to 600V), power distribution design, control circuits, communications, and/or mechanical systems—ideally in EV charging or energy infrastructure
- Solid understanding of European electrical regulations and IEC/EN standards (e.g., IEC 61851, IEC 62196), with the ability to apply them in the engineering and validation of EV charging systems
- Proven experience integrating complex hardware and software systems—including third-party platforms, interoperability protocols, and customer-specific configurations—with the analytical rigour to diagnose root causes quickly and build lasting fixes
- A scalability mindset, not just fixing problems, but eliminating their root cause. You have a track record of translating one-off engineering challenges into standardized, scalable processes, documentation, and solutions that benefit the broader team and future deployments
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage confidently across engineering, sales, customer success, and executive stakeholders—translating technical detail into clear business language and vice versa. The knowledge of English and the Italian language is important
- Comfortable with travel across Europe for site visits, commissioning support, and customer meetings; you thrive in both fast-paced office environments and dynamic on-site conditions
