Position Summary
The Senior Staff Hardware Product Manager will set and drive EV Charging Hardware Product strategy across EVgo, one of the largest DC Fastcharging networks in the USA. This role owns the multi-year vision for modernizing and evolving the entire owned charger fleet, and is recognized company-wide as the subject matter expert on charging hardware technology, roadmap, and lifecycle strategy.
This individual contributor role is fully remote and carries significant influence on company direction, with regular visibility to and interaction with the executive team. The Senior Staff PM operates with a high degree of independent judgment on issues that are often ambiguous or without precedent, and is accountable for outcomes that affect the entire Product function — not just a single initiative or team.
This role translates broad, sometimes undefined strategic goals and marketplace trends into a cohesive, multi-year product vision; builds and leads cross-functional consensus across Engineering, Site Deployment, Supply Chain, Quality, and Senior Leadership; and mentors other Product Managers in the hardware domain. Experience in product design & development, manufacturing, general construction, service & maintenance, and financial analysis are a plus. Thought leadership, sound judgment under ambiguity, and the ability to influence without direct authority are critical for success.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the company's principal authority on EV charging hardware technology and features — architect the long-term (3–5+ year) plan to keep the network at the forefront of the market
- Own the strategic direction and lifecycle management for the large and growing fleet of chargers owned and operated by EVgo, ensuring long-term asset performance and value
- Originate and evaluate novel opportunities to modernize and reinvent the charger fleet, including approaches without established precedent
- Set the strategy for and oversee execution of large-scale charger retrofit campaigns and programs across the network
- Own and evolve the multi-year DC Fastcharger product feature roadmap, aligning it to company-wide strategy
- Lead proactive research, planning, and resolution of complex, ambiguous issues affecting new product releases
- Set prioritization frameworks for site and charger features across the organization, balancing customer feedback, market forces, and business objectives
- Build ground-up business models and investment cases for critical new charging products, features, and infrastructure initiatives with company-wide impact
- Partner at a strategic level with internal engineering leadership and external architects/vendors to shape the release calendar and long-term business objectives
- Define and evolve Customer Archetypes and User Journey frameworks used across the Product organization
- Guide UI/UX Design strategy to ensure an intuitive, differentiated experience aligned to both user and business needs
- Set standards for and interpret User Acceptance Testing across new and existing products and charging sites
- Build and lead formal, cross-functional alignment across Site Acquisition, Site Deployment, Supply Chain, Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Senior Leadership
- Act as the primary escalation point and thought leader for initiatives under your purview, exercising independent judgment to resolve ambiguity for the broader team
- Establish the data and analytics framework used to monitor product and site performance and identify company-wide improvement opportunities
- Maintain authoritative, company-wide awareness of industry trends in technology, business practices, and competitive benchmarking for charging sites in the USA
- Deliver concise strategic updates and recommendations to the Senior Leadership team, influencing executive decision-making
- Mentor and provide technical/strategic guidance to other Product Managers within the hardware domain
Qualifications
- Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 6 years experience; or equivalent experience.
Desired Skills
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with company-wide or functional-level impact
- Deep experience in product development, preferably in EV charging or a related hardware-intensive industry

- Proven ability to build formal cross-organizational alignment and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including regular executive-level presentation
- Strong negotiation and persuasion skills across diverse, sometimes conflicting stakeholder interests
- Experience mentoring or informally directing the work of other product professionals a plus
