About RivianRivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
Role SummaryThe Sr Manager, Project Controls – Schedule is the technical and people leader accountable for integrated master scheduling, schedule analytics, EVMS, and schedule aspects of procurement for Rivian’s Production Facilities current mega‑projects and future factory campuses.
They own the P6 schedule architecture, critical‑path and float analysis, cross‑functional interfaces and schedule‑risk integration that underpins commissioning milestones and production ramp readiness. This role requires portfolio‑level integration across manufacturing, OEM integrators, shutdowns, commissioning, long‑lead procurement, and lender‑visible milestones on $2B+ programs.
Because schedule is the single integrated view of factory readiness, this role is mission‑critical to Rivian’s ability to launch vehicles on time, protect revenue, and meet DOE and lender expectations.
Responsibilities- Expected scope
- Direct responsibility for integrated master schedules covering >$1B in annual CAPEX across one or more mega‑programs.
- Ownership of logic‑linked schedules across design, permitting, procurement, construction, OEM installation, commissioning, and handover, including multi‑campus dependencies and long‑lead procurement chains.
- EVMS Implementation: Architect and deploy comprehensive Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) tailored to specific project lifecycles, including short-term rolling scopes and long-term EPC phases
- Leadership of a team of schedulers and planning analysts; close integration with cost, procurement, VDC, risk, and PM organizations.
- Integrated master scheduling, procurement scheduling & architecture
- Own the P6 schedule architecture for assigned programs, including logic linking of facilities work, OEM integrators, commissioning, manufacturing ramp, and all critical procurement activities (RFPs, evaluations, awards, fabrication, delivery, installation windows).
- Develop and maintain Level 1–4 schedules that connect enterprise milestones (funding releases, DOE gates, SOP) to detailed construction, commissioning, and procurement tasks, ensuring full technical traceability from field work and vendor actions to portfolio commitments.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of EVMS-enabling tools such as Cobra, Unifier, or Ecosys
- Ensure consistent schedule coding standards, calendars, and WBS structures across campuses and programs to enable portfolio roll‑ups and benchmarking.
- Schedule analytics, EVMS & performance management
- Run critical path, near‑critical path, float‑erosion, and what‑if simulations to support capital sequencing, risk mitigation, acceleration, and recovery planning, including procurement‑driven paths (long‑lead equipment, fabrication, logistics, customs, site readiness).
- Implement and maintain Earned Value Management at program scale, integrating schedule and cost data to provide objective insights on progress, productivity, and forecasted outcomes.
- Define and manage schedule KPIs (SPI, forecasted completion, constraint burn‑down, procurement lead‑time adherence, variance‑to‑plan) and drive corrective actions with PMs, Procurement, and functional leaders.
- Interface, shutdown, commissioning & procurement integration
- Coordinate complex interfaces between facilities construction, tool installation, OEM integrators, production trials, phased handovers, and procurement deliverables, ensuring schedule logic reflects operational realities and risk mitigations.
- Own schedule strategies for shutdowns, cutovers, and brownfield interventions, including contingency plans and alternative work sequences to protect production while executing upgrades.
- Partner with Quality, Commissioning, Manufacturing Engineering, and Procurement to align schedule milestones with readiness criteria, vendor commitments, and risk mitigations, so factories transition smoothly from construction to sustained operations.
- Schedule‑risk & quantitative analysis
- Lead or co‑lead QSRA (Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis) at major design, procurement, and construction inflection points; integrate outputs into float strategies, contingency, management reserve, and procurement strategies.
- Maintain a live risk register for schedule and procurement threats and opportunities; quantify impacts and mitigation benefits, and ensure alignment with cost, scope, and contracting decisions.
- Technology, VDC & visualization
- Integrate schedules with VDC and 4D/5D/6D models (ACC, Bexel, Navisworks, point cloud models) to simulate construction, commissioning, and procurement‑driven sequences for mega‑projects.
- Partner with Facilities Technology and VDC to ensure data flows cleanly between P6, VDC, PMIS, and reporting systems, enabling visual, data‑driven decision‑making for leadership on critical path, procurement bottlenecks, and risk.
- Reporting, governance & communication
- Develop and maintain standard schedule and procurement‑schedule reporting packs (dashboards, look‑ahead reports, variance narratives) for PMs, Directors, Executives, and lenders.
Provide clear early‑warning signals on emerging schedule and procurement risks, recovery opportunities, and cross‑program impacts, especially for critical launches such as our current Stanton Springs North project outside Atlanta. - Mentor schedulers, planners, and project teams on mega‑project scheduling and procurement‑integration best practices, elevating schedule literacy across Production Facilities and partner organizations so schedule becomes a trusted technical instrument, not just a reporting artifact.
Qualifications- 10–15+ years in project controls with a primary focus on planning & scheduling for complex industrial or mega‑projects; at least one full lifecycle from FEL through commissioning in a lead role.
- Deep, hands‑on expertise in Primavera P6 and related scheduling tools.
- Experience implementing comprehensive EVMS, 4D/5D/6D scheduling, and portfolio‑level reporting for owner‑operators or EPCs.
- Architected and drove strategic implementation of an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for multi-billion dollar mega-programs, including defining scope, reviewing proposals, and securing executive alignment on the final implementation path.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, project management, or related technical discipline; advanced degrees and certifications (e.g., PSP, PMI‑SP) preferred.
