Watt, the international journal focusing on energy and sustainability, seeks to appoint an Editor to cover the broad area of Energy storage and conversion and emerging energy.
Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn’t enough to sate your desire to learn more about the real energy world? Do you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is ‘yes’, you could be the person we’re looking for to join the editorial team of Watt.
We seek to appoint an editor with expertise in energy storage and conversion systems (with a focus on renewable energy and sustainability), to further our aim to publish the world’s best original research in this technologically relevant space. The areas to be covered by this position are wide-ranging, spanning fundamental materials science through to systems-level research and engineering. The ideal candidate will have a strong research background in a relevant area, and a keen interest in (and awareness of) the field more broadly – they will play a key role in determining how these areas are represented in our pages. This will be achieved through the selection and preparation of manuscripts for publication and by interacting with the relevant research communities. This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating position, and calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of science.

• Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, and possess a good appreciation of both fundamental and applied research objectives.
• A passion for science and a thirst to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your speciality.
• The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this broad research landscape.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be fluent in English (written and spoken).
• Be eager to interact with scientists worldwide, learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.
The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis (ideally starting April 2026). We prefer our Shanghai, or Ningde offices; flexible-base will be considered for candidates with relevant editorial experience.
Please apply by sending your CV, covering letter (including your class of degree, a brief account of your research and other relevant experience, and details of your current salary) and a concise discussion of relevant recent scientific developments which you have found particularly exciting (explaining why).
Candidates will be considered on an on-going basis. Early applications are encouraged. Closing date: 17th March 2026
