Role SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Material Program Manager to lead the strategic material management for our Electric Controller Unit. This critical role will be responsible for ensuring the timely and cost-effective availability of materials throughout the entire product lifecycle, from Quick Turn prototypes to New Product Introduction (NPI) and Mass Production (MP). The successful candidate will be a proactive problem solver adept at navigating complex supply chains, mitigating risks, and fostering strong relationships with suppliers and Contract Manufacturers (CMs).
Responsibilities- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Program Management, Procurement, Supply Chain and Operations teams to understand material needs and translate them into actionable plans.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for material-related communication with key suppliers and Contract Manufacturers (CMs) for ECU components.
- Own the "Clear to Build" (CTB) process for Quick Turn, NPI, and MP builds, ensuring all materials are available and accounted for prior to production.
- Proactively identify, report on, and mitigate material readiness issues, escalating potential roadblocks as needed.
- Oversee inventory levels at CMs to minimize excess and obsolete (E&O) material while ensuring adequate supply.
- Drive and manage "Risk Buy" decisions to secure critical long-lead-time components, ensuring alignment with program schedules and financial considerations.
- Identify potential supply chain risks (e.g., single source, long lead times, geopolitical issues, capacity constraints) and develop robust mitigation plans.
- Work closely with engineering for component obsolescence management and end-of-life (EOL) planning.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in material program management, supply chain management, or strategic sourcing within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 3+ years of direct experience with Electronics Control Units (ECUs) or complex electronic assemblies, preferably within the Automotive (EV a strong plus) or High-Tech industries.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing materials across the entire product lifecycle: Quick Turn, NPI, and Mass Production.
- Proven experience with "Risk Buy" strategies and execution.
- Strong background in developing and implementing alternative sourcing solutions.
- Experience working with Contract Manufacturers (CMs) in Asia, Europe and North America.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous environment.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and PLM systems. (Eg. Arena)
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required
- Certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., CSCP, CPIM) is a plus.
Pay DisclosureSalary Range/Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants: $107,000 - $133,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
