Horton, Inc. has an opening for a Customer Service/Purchasing/Materials Manager to work at our location in Britton, South Dakota.
Position Summary
Provides leadership and manages the daily activities of customer service, purchasing and materials. Personally decides how to resolve the more complex issues of customer service including those that involve issuing credit memos. Participates in business management system activities and general process improvement activities. Participates in development of strategic supplier partnerships and provides the leadership to achieve the corporate goals. Works with IT department to develop materials management information systems. Works with other staff to develop corporate strategic plan.

Responsibilities
Customer Service/Purchasing/Materials Manager Responsibilities:
- Manages the customer service department.
- Provides training and work direction to department staff, checking work and providing performance management.
- Maintains daily contact with the supervisory staff within the production areas in order to monitor product availability and to expedite orders as needed.
- Conducts meetings as necessary to exchange information with staff regarding policy changes or experiences.
- Actively monitors and assures company adheres to customer measurements. Aligns Horton processes and procedures to reach customer expectations.
- Determines whether to issue credit memos and determines the amount to be credited to customers for returned goods, errors, stock adjustments or other reason, consulting with accounting or senior management as necessary.
- Works on development and maintenance of computer technology. Works closely with IT Department to develop and test programs that will support sales department activity and improve efficiency.
- Participates in task force, steering committee or other continuous improvement activities with an overall objective of improving company performance.
- Develops policies and procedures in order to implement all materials function strategies in a timely and cost-efficient manner. Establishes uniform policies and procedures for the materials function to be followed in order to create efficiency and control of the process.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff in order to implement company materials strategy.
- Conducts staff meetings to inform staff of important business activities and operational objectives.
- Trains and coaches' staff in order to help them acquire the skills necessary to improve their performance.
- Reviews the performance of staff regarding their execution of department plans and their contribution toward successful execution of corporate strategy and coaches them in a way which leads to sustained high performance.
- Fosters an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork throughout the functional areas of responsibility and motivates employees to repeat positive behavior by recognizing their contributions.
- Works with the Director of Manufacturing and other management in the development of strategic and tactical plans for the corporation.
- Provides information and shares ideas about materials operations that will assist in the development of successful strategic plans.
- Solicits information and creative input from materials staff and shares that information in the management planning process, crediting originators in a manner that will encourage further cooperation.
- In conjunction with Corporate Purchasing, provides direction to procurement function by working closely with the procurement staff.
- Develops standards of performance for suppliers including audits of deliveries, invoices, quality of parts and the supplier certification process.
- Develops and implements long-term strategic supplier relationships in order to create successful relationships that result in cost-competitive, on-time delivery of quality products and services.
- Provides direction to the process of selecting an optimum number of suppliers in order to balance healthy competition with the fostering of mutually dependent relationships.
- Establishes relationships with suppliers of the most critical components through personal meetings, in order to communicate mutual expectations of performance.
- Establishes an environment of idea sharing that involves suppliers in product development partnerships with design engineering staff.
- Provide leadership to reduce supplier lead-time while increasing their flexibility to support schedule changes.
- Works closely with sales and production and inventory control departments to ensure accurate product shipment forecasts.
- Develops measurements to indicate overall plant performance against product shipment schedules.
- Reviews reports of current inventory levels established against inventory goals to ensure that inventory levels remain balanced to projected demand.
- In conjunction with sales, continuously improves forecasting system to be more accurate and efficient.
- Continuously improves and makes changes to material flow to make plant operations lean.
- Provides support to the shipping and receiving functions by working closely with the staff.
- Develops standards of performance and measurements to indicate overall performance.
- Promotes the use of Horton transportation, if appropriate, through interaction with suppliers and Horton sales departments.
- Ensures that all product shipped is properly documented and duly recorded.
- Monitors expenditures within the materials function and requires appropriate justification for expenditures, exercising sign-off authority on purchases as provided for in company finance and accounting procedures.
Qualifications
Customer Service/Purchasing/Materials Manager Qualifications:
- The position requires a bachelor's degree plus 8 or more years of varied materials experience.
- NAPM Certification is preferred.
- APICS Certification is preferred.
- 6 or more years of materials leadership experience are desired.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States. No Visa sponsorship provided now or in the future for this position.
