Electronics Validation Engineer Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for an Engineer for the Electronics Validation Team of the Electronic Development Department (EDD), which is one of the engineering departments in the Electronic Systems Development (ESD) Division
The Team:
EDD oversees the design and validation of body electronic features and components concerning Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles
The Position:
The Electronics Validation Engineer would oversee the performance of in-cabin cameras in Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles and adherence to Driver Distraction Guidelines. Also, the Engineer would be responsible for performing the technical validation of the related functions, as they would focus on functional performance and create validation test plans/reports. Thus, the individual would be required to:
- Collaborate with the appropriate stakeholders (i.e., HMG R&D, suppliers, quality departments, etc.)
- Be knowledgeable about system components and architecture
- Provide recommendations regarding enhancing user experience (UX)
- Have troubleshooting/root cause analysis skills
- Possess proficient oral and written communication to ensure effective and efficient communication with management and subject matter experts (SMEs)
What You Will Do: - Conduct end-to-end validation on features based on Test Development Plans (TDPs), including the ability to create and modify existing TDPs related to components and systems to improve validation efficiency
- Create and present reports for management to review
- Report content would vary depending on the scope of work; however, regular reports would include the statuses of projects for successful delivery, technical advancements, new trends, and competitive benchmark studies
- Participate in design reviews and workshops to define component requirements and specifications, and convert the requirements and specifications into a TDP and execution plan
- This role could include specifying specialized engineering tools related to design, simulation, and test automation
- Participate in or conduct competitive vehicle benchmarking activities, such as planning and scheduling evaluations with suppliers, distributors, and HMG R&D (as appropriate), preparing vehicles, leading evaluations, and reporting findings
- Identify specification deficiencies that prevent the system(s) from functioning and accurately report these concerns for tracking and company alignment
- Support different team members within HATCI in identifying and resolving system-related issues during the testing of electrical features
- Support technical leadership in R&D to resolve open issues
- Analyze concerns using logging tools and work with all stakeholders (e.g., component suppliers, network/server providers, etc.) to identify root causes and solutions
- Participate in/support all quality-gate activities before a given project launches for a vehicle platform. Also, assist/evaluate field/customer concerns after a system launches and drive resolution to maintain or improve customer expectations.
- Perform focus validation on post-SOP software to resolve customer-impacting issues
- Remain current with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s ongoing development and guidelines
- Provide progress reports during the entire product development process
- Perform additional projects and tasks (as assigned) to support the overall mission, vision, and goals of HATCI
- Remain current with new technology and competitive products
- Develop/maintain positive relationships with tech experts from the R&D Center and counterpart teams
- Travel up to 15% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role: - Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field
- Automotive engineering experience
- Knowledge in vehicle communication technology (i.e., CAN & Ethernet)
- Experience in performing root cause analysis and creating corrective action plans for electrical systems and components
- Familiarity with ECU HW/SW design
- Experience in in-vehicle validation testing and competitive benchmarking
- Understanding of DOT and NHTSA Visual-Manual Driver Distraction Guidelines for In-Vehicle Electronic Devices (i.e., Docket No. NHTSA-2010-0053)
- Familiarity with OEM applications of guidelines
- Ability to evaluate UI implementations (i.e., displays and controls, touchscreens, physical controls and switches, and labels)
- Understanding of electrical component specification development
- Experience in creating electrical component timing, test plans, and procedures
- Familiarity with bench development validation
- Flexibility with program and process changes, as Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is willing to make late changes to satisfy customer needs
- Good written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft programs, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
- Valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, automotive engineering, or a related field
- Experience with automotive product development processes from concept to launch
