How to apply (PLEASE READ CAREFULLY):
In addition to applying here, please email an example of a circuit you’ve designed to [email protected], with the following guidelines:
- Show a schematic, in as much detail as possible; a block diagram is acceptable if the schematic itself is confidential
- Describe what problem the circuit was trying to solve (the requirements, including numerical specifications); approximate numbers or scaled quantities are acceptable if the information is confidential or no longer available to you
- Describe how the circuit solved the problem (the outcome)
- Please provide your resume and the specific position (Electrical Engineer) you are applying to in your submission email
The company:
Electric Era is designing, building, and testing Nexus, a high power, intelligent, and autonomous battery-enabled charging station to provide the necessary infrastructure needed for the affordable and timely electrification of transportation. Our high power charging stations and the software platform we build around them will be a critical infrastructure piece of the electrical grid and will complement the deployment of high-performance, low-cost, fast-charging infrastructure around America.
Responsibilities:
As an Electrical Engineer, you will solve problems in the factory and field, strengthen the electrical design of our fleet of battery and charger products, and lay the foundation for our production documentation systems. You’ll also ensure the quality and compliance of our next-generation products and take them into production, and will be responsible for the following:
- Develop, refine, and simplify system level requirements and translate them into circuits (on- or off-PCB) that integrate with our system architecture.
- Lead multi-disciplinary root-causing efforts to identify design problems and roll out effective solutions.
- Deliver cost-optimized designs for battery storage systems and EV charging stations that are manufacturable by our in-house team or by our suppliers, including architectures, system wiring diagrams, and PCB schematics and layouts.
- Contribute to documentation and testing for regulatory certification, and create or revise designs that comply with safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements.
- Identify electronic part sources that reduce supply chain dependency and system cost.
- Specify and integrate commercial power and control components such as transformers, relays, and power supplies into purpose-built control systems.
- Collaborate with our site implementation team to enable efficient, compliant, and reliable charging stations.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering; Master’s degree is a plus.
- 2-6 years of professional experience, showing a strong portfolio of project work.
- Schematic entry and PCB layout - knowledge of Altium is a plus.
- Knowledge of bench power supplies, loads, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
- Awareness of the principles of high-voltage safety.
- Knowledge of design for isolation and hi-pot testing.
- Thermal design for integrated circuits, power devices, and battery cells.
- A documentation mindset in schematic design and process execution.
- Passion for our mission to decarbonize the transportation industry.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for taking on multiple roles and working across disciplines with a small team.
