Role SummaryThe Sr. Staff IT PMO Program Manager manages cross-IT deliverables and success on programs and initiatives with the highest impact and greatest ROI that contribute directly to Rivian & IT’s yearly objectives. This role will focus on strategic alignment and coordination between the CIO, the CIO leadership team, IT program/project managers, IT SMEs, and business partners to deliver critical milestones within cost and on schedule. This role is critical to continuously keep the IT team focused on the program/initiative direction, provide critical program/initiative escalation support, and deliver comprehensive IT executive-level reports to both IT and non-IT leadership. Success in this position, which encompasses both IT and non-IT driven programs and initiatives, hinges on the effective execution of a range of responsibilities on behalf of Rivian. This position will be located in Palo Alto, California and report into our Sr. Manager, IT Program & Business Operations.
Responsibilities- Govern all the cross-IT programs/projects by aligning on dependencies, removing duplicate efforts where identified, ensure program/project KPIs are updated, and take proactive actions to correct any discrepancies.
- Work with IT leaders & SMEs in determining technology and solutions delivery roadmap for the IT organization.
- Deliver program, project, and/or emergency cross-IT initiatives from initiation to completion while adhering to guidelines to deliver within cost and on schedule.
- Apply appropriate project, program, and operation management methodologies to each program & initiative.
- Collaborate with IT leaders, program managers, project managers to ensure alignment between new & existing programs/initiatives and existing organizational strategies and resources while identifying potential synergies, risks, and dependencies across different proposals, programs, and initiatives.
- Ensure IT stakeholders follow the organizational change management framework throughout all programs & initiatives.
- Manage and update all program/project documentation in real-time including but not limited to project/program plan, risk register, issues log, budget tracker, team roster/RACI, and communications plan.
- Gather, centralize, and uplevel updates from individual IT areas to prepare regular reports and present on the status of the overall IT portfolio landscape that includes all new and existing programs/initiatives throughout the IT organization.
- Lead communications representing all of IT to executive sponsors, stakeholders, leadership, project managers, program managers, and all others involved in the programs and initiatives you are leading.
- Complete appropriate closure procedures for each of your programs/initiatives, including but not limited to: handing off support documentation to the appropriate operational teams, recording and sharing lessons learned, open tasks, etc.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the intake and initial review of all cross-IT proposals coming from inside and outside of IT.
- Conduct thorough and objective evaluations of each proposal, considering factors such as strategic alignment, feasibility, financial requirements, resource requirements, potential impact, and risk.
- Facilitate discussions and gather input from relevant stakeholders to inform the evaluation and decision-making process for each proposal.
- Provide clear and concise recommendations on the optimal path forward for each proposal:
- Determine if the proposal warrants the establishment of a formal program with interconnected projects and a long-term strategic focus.
- Assess if the proposal is better suited as a focused, shorter-term initiative within a specific IT area and/or has specific objectives and deliverables.
- Identify proposals that do not currently align with strategic priorities or lack sufficient detail and recommend deferral with specific feedback for potential future resubmission.
- Maintain a consistent criteria for evaluating proposals and determining the appropriate classification (program, initiative, deferred).
- Communicate decisions and provide constructive feedback to proposal submitters in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain a comprehensive overview of all proposals under review, approved programs, and ongoing initiatives.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the proposal intake and review process.
- Stay informed about industry best practices in emerging technologies, program and IT portfolio management.
Qualifications- Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience (prefered) - Bachelors degree is acceptable.
- Profound comprehension of: OSI Model, Software Development Lifecycle, & cloud CI/CD pipeline
- 2+ years of hands-on engineering experience in one or more Information Technology disciplines.
- PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, Six Sigma, and/or ITIL certifications
- Strong verbal & written communication, presentation, problem-solving, negotiation, analytic, and critical thinking skills.
- Self-starter, independent, and innovative spirit.
- 8+ years of practical knowledge and experience in: Waterfall, Agile, & Scrum Project Management frameworks.
- 8+ years of experience in managing and delivering complex IT programs, projects, and emergency initiatives that require all areas of IT to deliver and partnership with business stakeholders.
- 8+ years of experience operationalizing IT programs for long term success.
- 8+ years of experience leading the implementation and replacements of enterprise infrastructure, cloud, or software solutions (IE: Networking Stack Replacement, Data Centers Implementation, Data Center Moves, Migration from one cloud provider to another, New Software Implementations, Software Replacement Migrations, etc.)
Pay DisclosureSalary Range for California Based Applicants:$173,000 - $216,300 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
