Job Summary:
The Driveline Engineering Specialist will work within the engineering team to design, analyze, and validate drivetrain systems for OrangeEV’s product line. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, power transmission, and vehicle dynamics, with an emphasis on efficiency, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Development:
- Develop, with suppliers, electric drivetrain components and systems, including transmission, axles, gearboxes, electric machines, and other powertrain parts, to meet performance, durability, and cost requirements.
- Select, evaluate, and optimize electric machines and controllers ensuring compatibility with vehicle requirements and performance standards.
- Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate design alternatives.
- Utilize CAD software to create models, detailed drawings, and assemblies of drivetrain components.
- Simulation and Analysis:
- Perform simulations and analyses on drivetrain systems to predict behavior under various operating conditions.
- Use FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and other engineering software to validate designs and identify potential issues.
- Optimize the efficiency and durability of drivetrain components through simulation and physical testing.
- Testing and Validation:
- Develop and execute testing protocols for drivetrain components to meet safety, quality, and performance standards.
- Collaborate with the testing team to validate drivetrain systems in laboratory and field conditions.
- Analyze test data to assess and verify performance and troubleshoot as needed.
- Collaboration and Documentation:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and quality assurance, to ensure smooth integration of drivetrain systems into vehicle platforms.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Support manufacturing by resolving production issues related to drivetrain systems.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement design improvements to enhance product reliability, efficiency, and performance.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in drivetrain engineering.
Qualifications:
- Education: BSME, BSEE, or similar engineering degree
- Experience: 10 years of experience in drivetrain or powertrain engineering, preferably in automotive or off-road applications
- Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols
- Prior experience in electric machine selection and integration for Class 8 trucks or similar heavy-duty vehicles.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Proficiency in CAD software (particularly Inventor).
- Experience with simulation and analysis tools (ANSYS)
- Knowledge of vehicle dynamics and power transmission principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
